I just bought an eee pc netbook, and it doesn't have a cd-rom drive on it. I've managed to network it to my main pc and successfully installed toee to my eee pc, but I'm having troubles, it keeps asking for the play disc. I've updated patch 1 > patch 2, even tried patch 3 but that didn't work either. I managed to make a .iso of the play disc and mounted it using daemon tools. Whenever I mount it, it automatically starts up as a CD, but immediately asks me to insert the play disc. I find that odd considering the iso of the play disc is what is asking for the play disc. Does anyone have any ideas? I have the 5.5.0. version right now.
I've heard that all over the place, that co8 and patch 3 aren't compatible, but I ran them together before and didn't have any problems. Maybe the problems are in gameplay or something. But that's a horse of another color. Where can I get this fabled "noCD"? I've searched google but I only find forums of people talking about it. Also, a minor question, was polymorph ever added to ToEE? I remember getting a sorcerer to 8 and I didn't see it, but I swear I read things about people casting it.
If you're going to disregard the installation requirements, be sure to state that in any bug reports you post.
I'm not disregarding anything. I installed it as the guide said. I'm just saying I tried patch 3 as well, since I read patch 3 had a no-cd built into it.
You heard wrong. Patch 3's only purpose was to fix the Direct X 9.0 looting bug - but it also inadvertently added in new bugs. The Co8 mods fix the looting bug w/o the extra issues patch 3 brings to the table.
Step 4 of the installation instructions says to not install Atari patch 3. You installed patch 3 anyway. You disregarded the installation instructions.
I don't even know how to reply to this. I give up, you're right, I'm wrong, can we just drop that issue and get back on the topic?
A No-CD fix, also know as crack, is a hacked *.exe-File with which you replace your original *.exe. This is, of course, illegal, because it disable a game's copy protection. I remember hearing that one for ToEE exists, but I don't know... but I think this could cause problems with mods...? Anyway, it would be nice if you post when you get it to run on a netbook, because I also plan to buy one...
I know it can be done, I've watched people play UT, EQ, and warcraft III on an older model of the netbook I have. I just have to find a way to get around that CD issue. I thought, too, that a nocd would mess with the mods. However, I swear a few years ago on an older version of the co8 mod, there was some no cd built in somewhere, either in a patch or in the mod. I ran it without a CD and I've never even seen a nocd hack for ToEE.
I suggest you reinstall the game, using only patch 2, because it's a) more stable, and b) you'll have support from the Co8 team. Otherwise, if you run into any issues nobody here will have any incentive to help you out if you're not installing the game properly or using an old version, which is what Gaear was trying to say.
Yeah, I totally get that. It's just I never said that I'm using Patch 3, I said I tried it, just so that no one would suggest it since I thought it was a no-cd patch. Anyway, thanks a lot for the help, you're a life saver. The candy kind, not the hero kind =P. Hopefully my little laptop will take it.
Guys, I am the first to say that there are times the No-CD .exe has to be legitimately employed - I'm about to recommend it to someone myself - but for obvious legal reasons we don't supply it or link directly to it. In future please give general instructions - eg "try GameCopyWorld" - rather than direct links. (And thanks for helping the guy out, Ausdoerrt).
One other minor thing that might effect how it runs... EEEpc's are UNIX based with a windows wine emulator... (or so I have been told/read) in my efforts with Ubuntu recently I was not successful running TOEE in the wine environment. It would fully install, look like everything was perfect but would lockup on start-up... You might never get it running on the EEE-PC
You're kidding me  If people sued about their XP PCs not being fully upgradable (and wrongly labeled as such), I'd say thats a slam-dunk lawsuit right there.
