I have been fighting with this game for months. I've read every post I can possibly find, I've tried every goofy thing they suggest. I have patch 1 -> patch 2 -> co8 5.0.0. installed, I've tried pressing the shift and ~ buttons every way that you possibly can, I've tried a bunch of other seemingly random things I've read about, but for the life of me I cannot get that stupid console to open. I've read that a bunch of people have this problem, but their posts usually end with people getting off topic. This is driving me crazy, I just want to play ToEE, maybe with some nice outfits for my characters. What I'm trying to do is buy from the merchants in the beginning, but I don't have nearly enough money. On my old computer, I was able to just give myself gold through the console, but I bought a new one and it won't work now. All I can think is A: I'm on a laptop which has that whole Fn thing going on and B: I'm on Vista, and lord knows that just causes a whole other mess of problems. Can anyone give me some advice?
You shouldn't be using 5.0.0 for one thing. It's outdated and no longer supported. 5.5.0 is the current modpack. You can get it here: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1819 With 5.5, you should have no need to console in money. Not sure what to tell you otherwise; some people just have problems with the console.
Yeah I just got that version, installed it perfectly fine. Console still won't open, and I don't see what you mean by not needing to console in the money, I still can't afford the armors. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I honestly didn't know which forum would be the most appropriate.
The console comes with atari patch 2. If it doen't work then the problem is there. Re-do patch 2 and try again.
How much money do you have? Are you in a shop building with supply chests or talking to the merchants on the road?
I'm in the shop with chests, but the same thing happened on the road. I have about 30pp, which isn't nearly enough to outfit my characters. Heck, I tried playing just with one character and I still ran out of money. I've already tried redownloading and reinstalling EVERYTHING short of my OS.
I think its a keyboard thing. If you are using a western keyboard (or whatever its technical name is) its <SHIFT> + <~> Ie hold shift and press the key in the top left corner next to the <1> (the 'tilde'). If you have a more European keyboard, you need <shift> + ¬ which is to say, you need shift plus some other key I don't have on this keyboard. My advice? Hold shift and hit everything unusual on your keyboard
Thank you for trying to help, honestly I do appreciate that, but did you even read my post? I said that I tried that. I see a reply in my topic that gives me hope that maybe my weekend wasn't wasted trying to START this game, only to find someone suggesting something I mentioned already trying. I'm not trying to be malicious towards you, but this really irks me.
I have had problems opening the console, also. I've had to repeatedly press the keys, over and over before it comes up. On my computer, it is touchy. And frustrating. IIRC, when I suceeded in having the console come up that early in the game, it immediately CTD. So it may not be possible to open it in the opening screen. Try going through the shop, choosing equipment the best you can, then go into the game and try bringing up the console. If you succeed, then maybe I am right and it isn't possible in the opening screen. Maybe.
The starting money is generated as set forth in the PHB, a random range per PC depending on his or her class. You're also given 200 - 300 gold in 'pocket money' for the party. It will vary, but if you've got a single character with 300 gold, that sounds like its within the bounds. Normally you'll have enough money to outfit your entire party with modest equipment, but you're of course free to spend on better stuff if you're willing to do without on other stuff (e.g., one breastplate and three leathers instead of four sets of chain mail, etc.). At any rate, I know you didn't post to debate this stuff but to open the console, so good luck with that.
