I am having a problem with the game locking up when I am battling the Balor in fire node. I have a dwarf fighter (level 11) using Scather with Power Attack that seems to be the problem. I tried to end his turn after his attack and nothing happens. The music plays, the mouse works, I can bring up his inventory but I can't end his turn, save or get out of the game. I have to shut the computer off to get out of the game. Any ideas on what is going on? I am running TOEE patch 2 Co8 3.04 and the new temple dll. Thanks for any help I can get.
I believe Scather and Fragrach have major problems when it comes to fighting the Balor. Don't use them in that battle.
Don't use Scather or Fragarach against Salamanders, either. Your character tries to counterattack after you attack and get dealt the Balor's Flaming Body damage, and the game locks up. You'll just have to carry a spare sword around for when you meet creatures that do that, or have your fighter sit that fight out. Also, you can get out of the game by pressing Alt+F4.
now spells are crashing it Hey all, Any suggestions on what to do next? I have the Balor on deaths door and go to finish him with a magic missle (still don't have a weapon that can hit him) and the game shuts off. Closes the game and takes me to the desk top. Thanks in advance for the help.
I think the Balor explodes or something when he dies. It could be that was just too much to handle. Maybe it'd work if you tried again. Also, it could be too complicated because of some fire resistance you have. Beyond that, I can't think of anything.
This is another popular bug with the Balor. Not sure if it was ever addressed in patches. Do you have any installed?
The game still crashes. I just tried uninstalling and re-installing the game. I tried the battle (have it saved) with just ToEE 2 patch, then patch 2 + Co8 304 and then Patch 2, Co8 304 and new dll--this didn't help the problem. I unchecked everything that was a save or an end turn that I could find in preferences, still no luck.
Korred - Try dropping Scather and Fragrach on the ground before you kill the Balor. And make sure that none of your characters have fire resistance gear on. I will look at the Balor script tonight and see if I can't find the problem. It is possible that the Balor script can be fixed so that this doesn't happen. At the very least I can create a special script just for you that will fix the problem for your specific game. That would be easy to do (I think). Once I take a look I will try to post a fix for you. Don't fret I am almost positive I can make a special balor script that you can just plug into the scripts folder... and that will skip the crash. Just give me a day. - Livonya
Korred - Is that the Balor or the Balor Guardian? There are 2 different kinds of Balors in TOEE. Did you talk to this Balor at some point? - Livonya
Livonya, The Balor that is causing the problem is the mob gaudring the exit in the Fire Node. I'm rather sure that you can talk to him but I never did.
Korred - The only way I can fix your game without a drastic change is to do this... I can provide 1 file that will replace magic missile. When you cast the magic missile at the balor it will deleate the balor and put his treasure on the ground. you won't get any experience and the balor won't show in your log as a monster you killed... but you can continue to play the game. then you can save the game and deleate my file for magic missle and continue your game... how does that sound? - Livonya
