Wonnilon needs to get his buttocks in gear

and learn to be proficient with his own repeating crossbow!

Other than that, toss this bad dude some boods of speed and he rules! Probably my favorite NPC. If you go emeridy meadows he says "I know a good battlefield when I see one". Long live wonnilon

 

What makes him good, then? What do you like about him?

 

His stats are very very good for a NPC that's fighter/rogue. Plus he's got some dialog, which doesnt make him any stronger but more interesting. I usually prefer my fighters to multiclass to rogue at least one level for sneak attack and he's already there, well done!

 

NPCs do not "need" to be proficient with their weapons. The non-proficiency penalty does not apply to them.

 

They don't? I wasn't aware of that. Damn, that kind of sucks...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Wonnilon is "short" a feat or two as is. As I understand it, he should have 5 "bonus" feats, 3 for having achieved 6 levels and 2 bonus feats for 1st and 2nd level Fighter. The only bonus feats I saw for Wonnilon are Power Attack, Cleave, and Improved Initiative. I just "asked" Wonnilon to join my party, and checked his feats. They are:

Armor Proficiency - Light ( Standard 1st Level Fighter )
Armor Proficiency - Medium ( Standard 1st Level Fighter )
Armor Proficiency - Heavy ( Standard 1st Level Fighter )
Cleave - Bonus Feat
Improved Initiative - Bonus Feat
Power Attack - Bonus Feat
Shield Proficiency ( Standard 1st Level Fighter )
Simple Weapon Proficiency - All ( Standard 1st Level Fighter )
Martial Weapon Proficiency - All ( Standard 1st Level Fighter )
Simple Weapon Proficiency - Rogue ( Standard 1st Level Rogue )
Evasion - ( Standard 2nd Level Rogue )
Sneak Attack - ( Standard 1st Level Rogue )
Trap Finding - ( Standard 1st Level Rogue )

Notice that there are only 3 Bonus Feats. As I understand it, Wonnilon should have received 2 feats as a 1st Level Fighter ( assuming he started out as a fighter ), a third feat when he became a 2nd Level Fighter, a fourth feat upon reaching his 3rd Level, and a fifth feat upon reaching his 6th Level. If this is correct (and checking the feats of the 4th Level Rogue, 6th Level Wizard in my party, it appears to be so), you need to ADD one more feat ( Weapon Focus - Repeating Crossbow ??) in addition to the Weapon Proficiency in Repeating Crossbow to Wonnilon's list of feats, without removing his Improved Initiative.

Another Kick A** NPC

Hi Folks
Another heavy hitting NPC that you find late in the game ( if you have a Neutral / Good party with a Druid in it ) is Kella, who is "hiding in plain sight" on the bottom level of the Temple. Her stats are"

9th Level Druid ( 45 HP ) Strength: 12 , Dex: 16, Con: 12, Int: 10, Wis: 16, Ch: 14

If that isn't impressive enough, she can Wildshape into a Hill Giant, with the strength to match !! Imagine having both Jaroo AND Scropp ( the Hill Giant on Level 3 ) in your party at the same time !!

Hey RC I agree about the druid, another sweet grab. About wonnilon, I never noticed that feat depravation you brought up. Maybe he was toned down as not to be TO good :roll:

You'd think not being able to use large weapons is bad enough :shrug:

Wasn't there a song back in the 70's about short people having no reason to live ?? I also remember reading somewhere, that most of the presidents of the US were taller than the average population ( with the exception of James Monroe you added the Bill of Rights to the Constitution to protect the "little guy" ).
