Hi, I am a new to TOEE and playing through for the first time. I have a 5 person custom party and am currently progressing through the temple. My characters will soon turn level 10 and I have been wondering... Should I keep the cap at 10 or raise it? If I raise it, how high? What's the most fun? Do the encounters scale to your level or stay the same regardless? Sorry in advance if these are noob questions
If you are totally new, I would say stay with 10 as the cap and play vanilla. Things other than random encounters are going to be new only once. Also, you will have a greater appreciation for all the effort the moders made, when you decide you want more.
Depending how far you are in the Temple. But honestly, I think 10-12 should be about right. Last time I was playing through with 5.0.6 I got to about lvl 6 with all the new content (admittedly, I did skip most of the temple except for big battles). Also, the Nodes are much more fun at lower level.
To be frank, people either leave it at 10 (as originally designed) or max it out at 20 (the full modded experience). I seriously doubt anyone picks a specific number in between. If this is your first run through, I agree with One nd: play vanilla with patches 1 & 2 first and enjoy that, then add Co8 5 and replay for the mods
If you are playing through the front-end, the level is already 20, even though it says 10 on the front-end.
Meh.. kept my level cap at 15. Ted, it seems that you infer more that goodies abound when you set the cap to 20, eh?
with a 5 character party, the highest I got was 12 in the original toee. Now I'm doing a run with 3 characters, and I've done everything exept the nodes, zuggy and the townquests (yup, I'm a "level-by-combat" sortof guy, I really don't like running left & right), and I've just hit lvl 15 with my fighterXIV/mageI, MageXI/thiefIV, ClericXV. The first 3 levels were hard, but now I'm slicing like a knife thru butter. The random encounters on the travelmap are plain useless, 'coz they don't follow your level, and well, in fact everything is easy. Since for every character-level, I have 2 save-games, I think I'm gonna try once to tackle zuggy with the level 14's...after I truly finished everything. Probably tommorrow or the day after.eace:
Try random sleep encounters in the temple - much higher levels. if you must Been there, modded that, don't have to infer it Actually, your effort vs reward slider probably peaks about 15 due to the difficulty of adding higher level spells and abilities (by and large, not many of those, but some). But if you want to see everything, you go all the way
Too bad we can't do like Icewind Dale and reimport the old high level characters into the beginning of the game with the level set to insane or "Heart of Fury". :wyatt:
Well, couldn't hold myself, and did the lvl14's vs zuggy... result: after 7 rounds there's one dead zuggy... The fighter (equipped with fragerach) sticked to zuggy, my mage/thief took on the summoned mushrooms and did 1 haste on the party and my cleric summoned 1 spiritual weapon, blessed once and for the rest did holy words. I am SO dissapointed with zuggyaper: Ooh and shiningted: those camping-encounters in the temple, they are no match either. That fighter of mine eats hill-giants for breakfast...
Yup she's weak. But then again, Fragarach is like cheating, I was knoching her out with frostbrand while the wizard was casting those maximized fireballs on the shroomz (the party with mass cat's dex successfully does a reflex save vs fireballs)
