so, i updated to the cumulative mods and fixes and ended up having to dump the entire installation and start from scratch. seems something snuck into one of the downloads i used. I'll list them all here but by the time I managed to finish everything my toee directory had over 20,000 folders. resintalling now and i'll post the URLs where i'm getting everything. What's most strange is that this happened only after upgrading to 5.0.6. has anyone else encountered this trouble?

tried using suggesttions found in the front end errors help post on the forums here. disconnected from teh interwbz and disabled avg. no go. on a side note, I've been turning off my comp each night, when it's scheduled to defrag every wedsnday overnight. my harddrive looks worse than refried beans and on moldy corn tortillas. i'll defrag and restart, maybe that will clear something up.
Your problem may be with the voice/portrait pack mods. From what the CMF threads state, these are not supported with the latest update. Try reinstalling without them.
defrag, disabled AVG and didn't install portrait pack this time. First time I use frontend the game works fine, I get 0004 error just before the game starts, but the game DOES start. if i quit though i'm not able to get front end running again. I get 0002 error and front end doesn't start. i'm running out of things i know to do. I've even installed the game, loaded through front end without ANY antivirus software installed and i still get the errors. if anyone has had similar problems any help would be greatly appreciated.
so, i decided i'd just use the front end config file to start games with the options i wanted. I was just assuming that the true false options read from left to right. Oddest thing happened though. If i change the frontend version in the config file to 5.0.0 before starting frontend i get it ti start with error 0004 just before the game loads. I have to manually change the version every time i start front end though, but it is a work around that doesn't require disabling my AV software.
Check the cmf bug report thread. I had that problem. To get rid of the 0002 error you basically move the contents of the frontend file into various places in data (see thread), then delete empty file. Sounds like you are almost ready to go. But there will be a few more issues. You have started while the game mods are in a slightly buggy beta stage. :thumbsup:
