Actually, I find the dialog with Calmert and Terjon quite humorous - St. C. is the patron god of the mafia. I can sort of justify the farmer's feud and Meleny quests by Terjon's promise of a discount. I like to think my party leader is patient in executing Vignette quest.

I have read from another website that Terjon is a 20th level cleric and only beatable by tricking the AI. That ain't the way I remembered him from the original module. So, how patient do I need to be in burning down that church?

I should correct myself. I am trying to think why in Greyhawk would my NE group want to give up a potion of heal. Perhaps the only motive could be to shag Meleny - how hot is she? Hmmm. They'll have to see what the linkage is between the Bing situation and Meleny.

For my evil groups, I justify doing a good portion of the Hommlet quests. My parties want to gain the full trust of the villagers, that way their bloody betrayal is that much easier, and that much more painful.

I think in the module, Terjon was a 6th level Cleric. At the moment, he's a Cleric/Paladin/Fighter I think. :)

But what is his approximate character level? Outrageous?

He's a cleric 10 Paladin 3 Fighter 7. His stats are Strength 20 and the rest 18. At the moment, he's essentially the avatar of St. Cuthbert. :p

So, the Neutral Evil vignette is either meant to be impossible or taken care of at the very end. I wonder what the thinking was behind changing his stats so radically.

Partly it was to give him spells like 'resurrect' which folks would be annoyed if they couldn't access. Partly it was to stop low level parties killing him too early with a lucky critical hit, I suspect.

I suppose that changing the level cap temporarily to max level 10 won't change Terjon, right?

    ***Hommlet Spoiler***

I just had a great surprise at Gremag's. I accidentally let my non-social Rog/Wiz interact with him and invited her to assassinate a local innocent in order to enter an assassin's guild (Gremag 1).

On the other hand I was very disappointed after roughing up the courier in their back barn, the log book recorded that they are agents of the Temple. I thought that was very strange since the dialog didn't mention that.

    Any different experience?

Will fix. That leaves us with the underwhelming "you've questioned a suspicious courier to the traders" quest resolution though.

That shouldn't even really be a quest, tbh. It's not like you were set a task and completed it, or that your simple 'questioning' of the courier was neccesarily significant in any way.

Gaear, I agree with you. Is that courier quest in anyway linked with the Gremag I quest? Perhaps the courier quest is the only way to connect the traders with the Temple. I don't believe the Jayfie situation did so.

If I remember the original module correctly (long time ago), Turuko, Kobort, and Zert were not allied with the Temple. I was a little surprised that the drow at Deklo was friendly when I included Turuko in the party.

Per AD&D 1E T1, Zert is a CE spy for the Temple who will gladly betray, kill, and rob the party. The Traders know about Zert, but Zert does not know about the Traders. The PnP module does not have the Man at Arms or Courier -- apparently these two NPCs replace the substandard horses and dogs the Traders sold in PnP.

Per AD&D 1E T1, Kobort and Turoko are not affiliated with the Temple and are just what they appear to be -- a couple of cowardly thugs who want to adventure with a party small enough for them to turn on.

Ah, I should have been more clear. My party tested Deklo both without Turuko and with Turuko; both times with Ronald. Never Zert.

The drow does not have any dialog when Turuko is present, except "Hi friend" but behaves like a cool badass without Turuko.

Is it a storyboard issue or am I not understanding Greyhawk politics properly? Hextor, Lolth, Zuggtmoy are all separate factions. Tharizdun/ Elder Elemental God has co-opted Zuggtmoy and Iuz is also in bed with Zuggtmoy. Hextor does not really fit into the grand scheme, or does he?
