You'll be able to install KotB, just not at the same time as ToEE. When you're done with ToEE, unintall the modpack and install KotB the same way.

Why will you need to move any files around? That shouldn't be neccesary.

No. If you really want the shopmap, uninstall everything again and then reinstall with a 'yes' to the shopmap question.

You should be able to get by with just uninstalling and reinstalling Co8, but I wouldn't try it anyway. It's best if you get away from the notion of deviating from SOP - that may be what got you in trouble in the first place.

It seems that there is no longer a problem leaving Jade's Market as long as I don't use Front-end to start the game. Even if I don't check Allyx's starting equipment during installation, it will crash once I hit Begin Adventure.

So, should I resign myself to scrapping Front-end? If so, should I add a second installation of TOEE in a different directory so that I can play KotB and keep both modules operational on my hard disk? What say you, Super Moderator?

Some people play it that way, yes. Try it and if it works, it works :)

Since I cannot get Front-end working, I should NOT apply the 5.0.5 CMF?

In addition to the above question, I suppose there is no way for me to get windows mode w/o Front-end. If there is a way, please let me know.

Simply add -window to the ToEE shortcut, and also I think :questionm there are no problems with 5.0.5 without Front-End, just extract and overwrite, but don't use the TempleFrontend.exe

    -window ????

Do you mean to the shortcut properties? In fact, the default is "Normal Window" with two other choices: minimized and maximized. None of those changes anything.

Sorry for not being more specific.

In the shortcut properties, the Target: field should have
    "C:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil\TOEE.EXE"
or wherever you installed to, simply add a space and -window to the end, making it
    "C:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil\TOEE.EXE" -window

    Presto.

    Thanks to all who helped.

I wonder if the title of this thread should be changed now that it has been diagnosed as a Front-end issue.

Ha! Just my luck. I finally started with my real characters (not just test ones), bought my stuff at Jade's and it crashed the same way again. Perhaps it wasn't a Front-end problem afterall.

Fortunately after re-loading twice I got to the NE vignette and then to Hommelt (had to do it twice because the lucky bastage acolyte scored a crit on my cleric and killed him). Reloading never succeeded when I was using Front-end. Strange.

Depending on how things progress, I may test out Front-end again.

Just curious, are you using Ferell's Character Editor (think that's the name of it)? I downloaded it recently and used it to give my characters the ability scores of the original characters from my tabletop group in our PnP run through ToEE. When I edited one of the characters, I changed his Intelligence score, then modified his skills accordingly. When I reloaded and chose to "Begin Adventuring", I got a ctd. I remember you mentioned it happened to you earlier in the thread. Now, if I modify a character through the editor, I don't mess with the skills, I just make sure my priority is to set the Int score to whatever I want the completed character to have, at least the Int modifier anyway, that way you don't have to modify skills. I've never had a problem with any characters that I only modified abilities, only when I tried to modify skills due to changing the Int score. Don't know it that will help, but sounds like it couldn't hurt to mention it.

I had this problem last night and (after a couple of hours) noted the following:

    1) Starting with a [Repeating] Crossbow -- due to Weapon Focus (not console) gives you 10 bolts of ammo as well.

    2) Jade Weaponsmith sells 200 bolts.

    3) Buying for (assigning to ) character with 10 free bolts (giving OC a quarrel of 210 bolts) causes crash when asking Jade to start game.

    4) Move the 10 free bolts to another character before buying /assigning (so PC with xbow has just 200 from Jade) -- no CTD when starting game.

I note that Jade Weaponsmith sells 200 arrows and 200 stones -- the same error may occur; once my game worked, I didn't test any more.

Yah, Cujo picked that up. Something similar happens with the archer in the Thieves' Guild in ToEE. No idea why, but spliiting ammo like that causes CTDs. Just gotta avoid it

Ah! Nice to see others having the same problem that I have been having (sorry).

On my side, none of my characters has so much amunition: only 20-30 stones & arrows.

I wonder if it is meaningful that both the music and words are repeating while it is crashing.

I wonder if the problems here have to do with the strange way (on my computer) the data has been incompletely added to the ToEE foler (no Front End) or, when I do use Front-end, that some data is not being properly incorporated into the Co8 module folder - in this case, the Vignettes.

Refer to my other thread DH/Hommlet quests.
