help! I'm really screwed I think. I'm using the latest version of the Circle of 8 patch, everything was going great, until I tired to get my wizards (one PC, one a NPC) to decipher scrolls and learn new spells. The game gives the message cannot decipher scroll, spell already known (or words to that effect). How do I fix this, or is my savegame totally screwed?
The radial menu has copy scroll on it, so it should work. If it fails, you're not high enough level for that spell. The scroll spell must be a wizard spell not already known and within level.
I feel really silly now. I wonder why that extra radial menu option "decipher script" does then, if its not the correct way to learn a scroll?
decypher script allows those with the use magic device skill to use scrolls, even when they have no spell casting ability of thier own.
For the record, I'm pretty sure you -can- scribe spells that are a higher level than the wizard can currently cast. Seems like there's a higher chance of failure when attempting to do so, but not a sure failure by any means. It is also possible to fail in scribing spells that you -are- sufficient level to cast. Qwinn
Yes, you can in ToEE. Not sure if you should be able to do so in D&D3.5, though... [EDIT: Now that I've checked, the SRD excludes scribing a scroll of a spell you can't prepare, such as a scroll which is of a higher level: In KotB, I've managed to have a 4th level wizard copy a lightning bolt scroll, and then scribe copies of it... came in handy to cast all those lightning bolts... apparently this was a cheat.]
