I am new to Vista. I have played and enjoyed TOEE. Without the patches as I had problems with the game after installing them on my XP Pro laptop.
Now, I have a new laptop w/ nVidia 8800 MS vid drivers. My TOEE installs but, will not run past the Atari, WotC splash screens. I have been searching your boards as a non-member and, now, as a member. Finding info on installing TOEE w/nVidia drivers is taking way too much of my time. If any one choses to reply to me, please include links to the pertient articles, posts, etc. If I cannot get it to work, maybe there is another single player RPG that someone could recommend that will run on my machine?

    Machine specs:
    HP Pavillion dv9300 series
    Intel Centrino Core2 Duo 1.50
    nVidia GeForce M8600 GS
2 gig RAM w/dual 120 Gig hard drives
    RealTek Audio
    Toshiba CD/DVD player/writer
INSTALLED O/S: Windows Vista Home Premium (build 6000) with all patches and security updates installed and functioning properly
(all information supplied by Belarc Advisor)
Many thanks in advance from a Rpg'ing addict. :)

Google a no-cd crack for Atari patch 2. (No link because it's forum policy not to link to cracks/hacks etc).

Put this file into your Atari>ToEE folder and select yes when advised that there is already file of that name there.

That should solve your current problem unless this is a problem relating to Vista and not the secure-rom copy protection.

The Ultimate and Business versions of Windows Vista have a feature called enhanced security and this feature has been shown to be the cause of some problems for using some CD disks that have SecuROM on them.

Thanx for your prompt replies. :) I will give it try soon and post a success/fail notice. To Krunch:
I read your post for deleteing all temp files. If this doesn't work I'll un-install ToEE then do the deletions and re-install. Thanx again...TE....PS My UAC is already dis-abled for Everquest, so no problem from that wonderful piece of Microsoft sh*t!

Addendum 02/23/08...I went to the Atari Support page. Should I use the Windows XP patches for my Vista Machine? I would think so but, I figured I'd check here first.

I just installed patch 2 and 3. I did not install 1. The game still just takes me to the Atari, Troika, WotC splash screens then exits to the desk top. I went looking for that no cd crack thingy but, un-fortunately, there was so much garbage after I Google'd it I gave up finding it after 2 hrs. I am beginning to think I'll never get this game to work. I am going to un-install now and try deleteing all those files and install patch 1 thru 3 and see what happens. If anyone wants to send me a link to the no- cd crack site in an e-mail feel free. The admins here can use it.

It's gonna be awhile til I log in again so, be safe all and thanx for all the help so far, :)

You don't need to uninstall everything if that is all you've installed so far. Just install patch 2 one more time.

As for the no-cd crack, I'm sure someone will PM you a link (but it won't be me because there's a filter which stops me even googling for it on this PC :pirate: ).

The Windows XP link from the Atari page for the Atari Patch2 download is good for Vista.

    Zeb's link for installing ToEE
    Ted's link for installing KotB

I just dl'ed the Co8 5.0 mod. I've also dl'ed all the Atari patches (of which I need patch 2 only). I got the no- cd crack file too.

This wil be my last post to this particular thread. I will post to the ToEE discussion thread from now on. Hopefully, after I re-install the game (You were too late Zeb) it'll work and I'll post something suitable for the Vista workaround sticky.

Once again, :notworthy I bow before all your towering intellects. Thank yunz!

PS...It's snowing in Kansas, Toto.
