Livonya, I too am currently playing The Witcher and it's a lot of fun. I found a great trainer for some of the really tough spots at Cheat Happens, it will let you reallocate skills and other progressions. I made the wrong choices with character leveling and it really helped.

    Cheers.

After a full weekend of The Witcher, I can honestly say it is one of the best cRPGs I have played in this decade. Extremely well done. I have yet to encounter a single problem with it.

    Things I love:

    1) long term consequences
    2) moral ambiguity
    3) dark, gritty feel

In is story driven and you do have to role play being a Witcher. And I guess some people might not like that, though honestly I think having a more specific story makes for better plots and situations.

Of course it the action is real-time which I often find annoying, but in this case I am enjoying the action as the game-play design was well thought out with lots of choices during combat.

Anyway, I love it so far.

PS: I am playing it on the hardest level, which really adds to the intensity.

I've said it before, but a modded out Baldur's Gate (with TuTu and the NPC Romance Mods) + BGII (again, with a mix of the completed mods) is the closest I've ever had to a real RPG campaign experience with a CRPG. Just amazing what that game turned into.

Hats off to Black Wyrms Lair and Gibberings Three for there many many additions and fixes. If you think about it, Baronous and company almost mirror what Co8 have done for ToEE.

A link to them, (hope I'm not out of line) :)

Oh, and I'm currently knee deep in The Witcher and Hellgate London.

Does that include 'Dark side of the sword Coast'?

I remember playing through that in my last BG playthrough, about 5 or 6 years ago.

I don't know where you can get Baldur's Gate for free, but they're fairly cheap now since they're older. I think I got the Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal special edition for about $20.00.

Playing Witcher at the moment... Man, I've gotta say it's one
of the best games I've played in years, even though it is pretty
action oriented and has some bugs. It has an interesting story
and setting (some Slavic flavours). Nothing is black and white
there, just shades of grey. If only Atari would use moral dillemas
more often in D&D games... eh...

I've also came back to my adolescent love - that is Need for Speed 4.
Ah... Isn't it ironic that in the intro the tuner car gets beaten by the
exotic and now what EA's doing is only tuner cars? It reminds me
of the good old days... I also have some tracks from NFS2SE, one
of the first PC games I've ever played... ah good memories.

Sh*t I still need to finish Baldur's Gate and Thief III. :p

A long time Neverwinter Nights persistent world player and DM, now having discovered ToEE after all these years thanks to the KotB announcement at Sorcerer's Place. Also recently played the new version of "A Bard's Tale" (yes, I also played the original C64 version!) and of course NWN2, though the multiplayer element of that game is still... beta.
