"in their footsteps" so something like that, about the missing adventurers.

Ive cleared the swamp-the area with the lizard men and cave. And i found and cleared Lord Axters Hextor keep.

I thought axter were i would find the solution, especially after he tried to extort money from me , but i ended up kiling him when we got into an argument.
I cleared the prison /torture area also.

Have i missed something in those areas ?Did i kill him too soon to get the info i needed for the quest ?

    harpy quest from the druid:
No matter what i do to my settings ,i cant walk past that tree area south of the hermit, that one tree type just kills my system.
Is there a setting im overlooking that coudl help ? Some wya to turn the trees off ?

Ive got the invite to castellian, but havent gone in yet as i dont want to risk having the demo end.
If i go and talk to him and do whatever quest he gives me, will the demo end ?Or can i go on exploring ?

    The Demo will end.

For the 'walking in their footsteps' quest, try going back to the Lizardman Lair and having a look around.

As for the huge trees - yeah, they slow down the system all right. 'Modders lag', I call it - mods will never achieve the same level of performance efficiency as the original game: we just don't have the tools, knowledge or resources.

Hopefully future versions of KotB will work around this - I am not saying we won't try and fix it, I am just saying system specs for a mod are inevitably higher than for the original game. Otherwise, try adjusting your graphics options.

In any case, there is nothing south of that big tree of interest. The intersting bit is under the tree. Maybe that doesn't help ;)

    WALKING IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS QUEST

    ***** SPOILER ***** SPOILER *****

First, you have to talk with the Lizardman Chieftain in his lair.

Most importantly, you have to trust and believe what the Lizardman Chieftain says about what transpired, i.e., you have to pick the right dialogue for that. Then, you have to go to the Keep and talk with the main military guy (at night, in the pub).

Ooops, guess killing the guy for getting rude to me was a bad idea then. ;)

    WALKING IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS QUEST

    They attacked me on sight.

The only dialogue i got,was from the babies, which i had to kill to end the combat phase (i didnt want to kill them, and would have preferred NOT to as it doesnt fit my chars at all,but i couldnt get out of combat without doing so )And all they said was basically to ask me "why are you killing us", and "Why are you letting them kill us ?" which was directed to the already dead lizard men.

The lizard men outside the cave attacked on sighting me, the ones inside the cave attacked upon sighting me.

So if this quest hinged on conversation,im not gonna be able to finish it.No problem.I dont expect to finish every quest.

However if i was supposed to be able to talk to them, you might want to look at that.

As for the hermit and harpy quest, no luck there also.
Ive searched the area what i would consider very well, and found nothing.

Im assuming you mean the large 3 trees that have red leaves by the hermit, the ones with the pumkin looking objects by them.
Now these trees act funny, blinking in and out of existance visually on occassion for me, so if theres a secret door or object there.it might not be working for me.

A spoiler here telling me what i should find would be helpful IF you want me to see if its working correctly.

Otherwise im simply going to move on and consider the quest as failed.

I understand you killed all the lizardmen: you said that in the first post. I got that, even if others who replied here weren't really reading what you said. My advice remains the same: try going back to the Lizardman Lair and having a look around Note i said the Lair, ie the inside of the Cave, not the whole map, jsut that one little cave.

To avoid killing the Lizardman babies, either use non-lethal damage or some sort of spell.

Now, the tree: you said you had problems with a big tree south of the Hermit. I said The interesting bit is under the tree. I will simply expand that by pointing you to the quest entry in your log book:

The young Druid Kepler has tasked you to clear some harpies from a nearby ruin.

Mother of all spoilers to follow:

You should have been looking for evidence of a ruin. You'll find it under the big tree to the south of the Hermit. You probably even see a harpy there as a dead give-away.

Well, like i said ive searched the cave very strongly, using both searchs.Nothing shows up.
My rogue has a 10 search.

I thought maybe the one area was a secret door, but if it is i cant find it.

As for the Hermit. The area south of the hermit IS the area i cant travel thru due to the trees overwhelming my system.

Theres the three red leaved trees, with the pumkin like things, than south of those the hermit, than south of those the tree area that i cant travel thru due to its effect on my system.

So, if i have to go down there, than ill have to pass ,because its simply not possible for me.

    pics to show

First pic shows the three trees ,then my party and hermit south of them.

Second pic shows the area i cant get to, due to the effect the other type of trees have on my system. My party is standing in the same place in both pics.

In the second pic, the hand is on the tree type that cuase the issues for me.

Just to be sure, you did start a new game after installing the Demo and not continue from some old Beta version of the game?

Are there excessive amounts of sparklies? Butterflies? Fireflies? And a massive decrease in performance as you approach the tree to the south?

What you describe sounds a lot like the issues caused by adding new items to the .sec files without starting a new game - the very same reason the CMF's each require you to start from fresh.

Yeah, it sounds like a sector sort thing doesn't it? I'd be inclined to think it is (based on me adding liv's secret door fix and forgeting to sector-sort after) except no-one else has mentioned it. More likely just me putting oversized models on the map, or possibly tkobo's system set-up, or both.

For anyone who is having little graphical glitches with bigger things on the maps (like trees blinking in and out when you scroll, or ponds disappearing) we just don't have full control of the graphics in the game: its the one part we can't thoroughly mod. Whether its creating 3d backgrounds that players can run in and out of, or creating new monster models, we just can't do it. Sorry, we're doing the best with what we got.

EDIT: O and tkobo - yes that tree is the one where the next part of the quest is found. Sorry its unplayable for you. Maybe try turning down your settings in the Options?

Hi - I'm having the same problems with the Hermit's Tree - I've tries turning down all of my video options, switching to fewer players, even "nibbling" at the edges of the tree in order to try and entice the Hermit to come out of the area and talk to me in a place where I can move normally - no dice. It would be nice if there was a way to 'turn-off' the leaves - either by an option 'switch' or some kind of .exe option (i.e. KOTB.exe/no trees) - I'm just grasping at straws here because I want to play this without going out and upgrading my system. (Which now that I think of it been the major impetus to upgrading all of my computers in the past)...

Yes, its a brand new fresh install and ive tried all the possible graphics options avilable under the options tab.

All locations in which that type of tree are present do the same anytime that type of tree fills like 1/4 of the screen or more.
Theres a few places with this type of tree that this happens on the map ,but this is by far the worst as i have to walk pretty much right at the tree (and the same type of tree is on the left side which compounds the issue)

I also want to take a minute here to make it clear im not complaining at all.I think this mod is excellent even with its faults.AND i thank all those who helped make it.

Re: the Northern Oak Woods tree slowdowns, Ax Thrower encountered that problem during beta testing and was able to overcome it by setting all graphics options to low and restarting from a saved game wherein he had not yet been to that map.

I take it that I won't ask him the right question if I don't believe the lizardmen.

One annoying thing about the dialog tree is that I can't ask about the missing adventurers if I'm looking for the spider eggs (can only choose one). Since I took the dragon quest, I guess it'll be quite some time before I can complete this one.

There's a back door, AlanC9 :) As I said to tboko, go back and have a look inside the Lair.

If the dialogue tree is either-or, then yes, thats something that needs fixing.

EDIT: Ok, I added something to Lord Axer that if you bug him about the missing adventurers he will mention the Deep Swamp (and you mark it on your map). I'll do the Lizardmen later when I can concentrate :)

I was able to get both the info on the other party, and the dragon quest. I saved before entering, and carefully chose my responses.

Shiningted, I searched (both ways) every inch of the lizardman's lair and found no backdoor. Do I have to just walk through the correct spot?

    btw...I read Krunch's post, that's why I posted my comment. :D
