Since it's quite a bit a don't play ToEE (or watch this forum), i do not know if it's a problem already solved... well, I arrived in Verbonoc and begin the "gnome dungeon" quest, killing al drow untill third level. It was rather difficult (5th level party, incredibly unlucky with dice, constantly critical hit), so I decided to return "surface" and rest in the Inn: but coming back, tryin' to go down to second level, result in a system crash that send me back to desktop. It's hardly the 20th time I reload the game and try, but it's always the same...please help me :help:
Update: It crashes even when I have a "quest" random encounter, such as after the Daring Rescue or Ami. It's annoying.
"Clear the map cache" if you are not already doing this. It is a checkbox option in the ToEE Front End that will be done each time the game starts, if it is selected and you click the button to save the options. Note: Also, do not autosave and do not quicksave, neither of the two.
I have the "autosave on map change" option unchecked and the "clear game cache" activated, but it keeps on crashing. Also tried to install the game again, but it doesn't matter.
It reads like a corrupted save. [EDIT] When you reinstalled, did you use the uninstall from the add or remove programs to uninstall the game and Co8 MOD, delete the remaining ToEE game files, reboot the computer, and, then, run the install for a new game? Have you been keeping the saved game files and using them? [FACT] Windows Installer will only uninstall the original files that were installed. If you add files to a program and, later, uninstall the program, the files that have been added since the original install will remain in place after uninstalling the program. If you do a reinstall overtop of those remaining files, those files will impact the reinstalled program.
I remember having the same problem with the Verbobonc dungeon when I once rested down there. When I tried to return from the dungeon it would crash. I remember reading somewhere here that it was a problem with the bodies going away because of the lapse of time and their items being left behind. So when you went back to the spot where the items were it would crash. I've tried searching for that thread but I couldn't find it again. From memrory I think I deleted the .pyc files in the data\scr folder to get it too work. You can do this after installing the CMF by opening the data\scr folder in your ToEE root directory and double clicking on delete_pyc.cmd. I'm pretty sure thats how mine was fixed. Its worth a shot.
to Krunch Yes, I unistalled the game, the Co8 5.0.4 and deleted all the files, reboot the system, and only after reinstalled the game. But I kept my previous players and saves... to Sachmo used the delete_pyc.cmd method. Keeps on crashing everytime. I have to assume it's a corrupted save file problem...damn, it took me a bit to reach that level So, no way I could "save" my previous work, not to start it all over again?
Unfortunatly you wont be able to keep you previous saves because they would've saved the bug as well as your progress, which means you'll have to start a new game. The good news is you get to keep your characters. If you want you could level your characters up to a level below their "current" level and equip then how they are now (unless you recived unique items from NPCs) and blat throught the game quick to get back to where you were.
I think the error was caused by a spelling mistake in the skin files for one of the Drow's items, this problem was fixed in the CMF files.
Thank you all, guys, at least now I know "in which way I would die" (an italian phrase...don't know it's english similiar). Well...let's be positive: it's the right time to start a game with a caothic-good alligned party
