Hi guys! im new here and ive seen how you guys can help people having trouble with ToEE. Well, i just need some help with the ff:

    1. whenever i try to talk to an NPC to leave my party (ex. Elmo), a battle will start right away after the NPC bids farewell...this forces me to just fight and eventually kill the NPC. i don't like to kill NPCs coz i might recruit them again whenever i need them. is this a bug or something?

    2. how do i install / use downloaded patches?? i dont understand the instructions posted in this forum.

    3. is there an easy way to level up my characters? pressing [shift] + ~ during gameplay doesn't work..why is that? i need it so badly...

    4. during battles, some enemies' turns take so much time to end. it's like the game hangs but with the music still playing and the characters moving. for example, one creature would have its turn to attack. after it attacks, it does nothing and its turn doesn't end right away. i have to wait for about 1 minute so that one of my players whose turn is next to that creature can finally attack. this did not happen at the start of my game. it started to happen during the moathouse part where i had to fight various creatures and the guards of Lareth. is this another bug?

I hope you guys can actually help me with my difficulties and problems with a very good and exciting game...how can i enjoy such a masterpiece if i encounter such problems? so please, help needed as soon as possible. thanks guys! keep rockin'!

    1. Probably the NPC got damaged by one of your party during a fight by accident, or maybe you killed a Hommlett villager and made the village hate you? That would make the good NPCs hate you, though they wouldn't turn on you while a party member.

    2. Unzip the patch; the files will be in a 'tree' structure, with directory names corresponding to directory names under wherever you installed the game. Simply copy the files from the patch directories to the corresponding game directories.

    3. I use a UK keyboard layout, and I found that the ~ key was generated (in game) by the key marked ¬ (that's above the TAB key). Also you have to keep the keys pressed for a second before you get a response. IIRC you can map commands to keys via the options menu; call that up and press the ~ and ¬ keys on your keyboard and see what the game thinks you're pressing.

Type levelup to get an XP boost.

    4. I don't know. Perhaps the turn is passing to a creature offscreen? Or perhaps it's trying to move somewhere or do something and can't. Try to identify the creatures in the turn list at the screen top with those you can see - perhaps there are more listed than you can account for (OK, this is a stretch I admit)

    Hope this helps.

    Getting rid of NPCS

    1) the Elmo problem is just another npc-interaction bug. If you ask him to leave the group in Hommlet he automatically goes hostile and that makes everybody else in Hommlet hostile. Doesn't matter how you've treated him.

The trick I found to dismissing him is you take him to Nulb, ask him to leave the party and when he goes hostile you beat him unconscious after setting your attacks to _non-lethal_. The next time you run in to him in Hommlet he will be friendly again, he even remembers adventuring with you. Silly.

The same thing can happen when you rescue Paida.
