Re: TOEE front end errors when loading..

I have installed the game in order based on the structure on this website. My game loads to the WIZARD's Of the Coast logo and then just "goes away" and takes me back to my windows background as if the game quit. No error messages of any kind just like it"Exited".

    Any ideas? Anyone?

Re: TOEE front end errors when loading..

Try this. Go through the instructions in the comprehensive installation thread in the download part of the forum. Only this time, after installing Atari patch 2, install the no-cd crack for atari patch 2 (google for it) straight after before continuing with the installation. Also try the common issues and solutions thread for some advice on video card stuff (number 14 IIRC)

Let us know what happens and if it is still crashing could you post exact install order and system specs.

edit: bumped to another thread because this problem is creeping up a lot again. Makes it easier to reference in future ;)

I think I found the no cd crack and downloaded it, but I can't open this file. It looks like you also have to download a program to extract this file? Is that correct?

If it is a .rar file, you'll have to download winrar or a similar program to extract the files. If it is a .zip file, you should be able to extract it by right-clicking and going to "extract..."
But you may need to download winzip or a similar program.

Once you've done that, put it into your atari/toee folder. If you got the right place, it will ask you if you want to overwrite, and the answer is yes. Make sure you virus check the thing though - dodgy cracks can carry dodgy things.

Hey guys, I really appreciate all of the posts on this site, but what a pain! I have tried all of your suggestions and it still does not work. I am going to give up on it and just play something else. I had it working on another computer about a year ago, but enough is enough. I have spent 4 or 5 days trying to get this game to work and it won't, so that is enough wasted time for me. Thanks again, No more TOEE fo me!

I don't get it. Besides the occasional crash I haven't had any trouble with ToEE. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I'm playin' ToEE with minimal problems.

for some people on some systems the game is just a huge pain to install, and requires a lot of time and effort. Sorry you;re one of those people - I really do feel your pain.

if anyone else is going through this problem and the posts above do not help, post your exact install order and give some systems specs (graphics card especially). Please don't pull your hair out for four or five days before asking for some help and support ;)

I agree with Zebedee. Please give some of your system specifics.
I bet it is the video card or driver(s).

Is your computer video a nVidia video? Is it a nVidia in the range of nVidia 6800 through nVidia 8000? What is your computer video?

What operating system is installed on your computer?

Ok guys, one more shot i guess, I am trying to install and run this game on a Compaq Laptop. It has plenty of system requirements, but the last post about the video card/driver has renewed my interest in trying to get this to work. I have a NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 on this laptop. Is there something I should be doing different with it?

Oh, I am also running Windows XP.

I really appreciate the patience you guys are having with me.

Installing ToEE is more about getting it right for the first time and then remembering how you did it ;)

Right first things first are that you need a clean install. Let's make sure there's nothing by deleting the atari/toee folder. This is just to doublecheck that everything is installed correctly to start with - bad installations can cause the black screen crash too.

Then follow the installation sticky thread but remember to add the no-cd crack for atari patch 2 directly after you install atari patch 2. Otherwise same install as on the sticky.

    Then run.

If it crashes, check out post #14 of the common issues and solutions. If the first solution in that post applies, try it out.

    Still crashing?

Go find the very latest drivers for your graphics card.
You're not overclocking anything are you? If you don't know, the answer is probably no so no worries there.

If it is still crashing, then it will be something about your card which isn't ToEE compatible. I'll go have a dig about for info, although Krunch is very good at this sort of thing. He'll probably know more about fiddling about with gfx card settings than me - especially as he guessed Nvidia straight off the bat ;)

See if the ToEE game or, if you installed it, if the Co8 MOD is also listed in Add or Remove Programs. Uninstall both of them where, if both are listed, uninstall the Co8 MOD first. Once these are both uninstalled, then, delete the remaining ToEE game program files in Windows.

I would even suggest downloading and installing this nVidia GO and nVidia GEFORCE video driver and rebooting the computer before doing anything for the ToEE game reinstallation.

    -> ForceWare 169.04 XP 32-bit

    [EDIT]
32-Bit nVidia video driver for Windows XP with GeForce FX, 6, 7, and 8 series GPUs

Krunch, Ok, I have removed the ToEE thru Add/Remove progams, the Mod and the Atari directory. There should not be anything left that says ToEE anywhere on my hard-drive. I am going to go get this Video driver and install it. then go back thru the installation procedures. I will post my results later.
