:evil_laug The mod sounds interesting and I wondered whether it was being worked on or not is all, honest! (I admit, had the answer been no, I may well have fiddled a bit...)
This is the mod that started me on the slippery path that is is ToEE modding... I'd still like to see the arena of heroes completed, and added to the current Co8 (5.0.1) patch. <cracks the whip> Get to work Morph'. oint:
Hey I just noticed the Arena of Heroes mod. I'm currently using Toffee 4.0.0 and Co8 Mod Pack 5.0.4. Is the Arena mod compatible with these?
Hi there, I have just played with 5.04 cmf. I have found quite alot of extra adventures/quests but not the arena of heroes. Has it been added to the cmf 5.04 or should i download and install the mod seperately ? Does it even work with the 5.00 ? /Chano
Okay, here's the skinny on AoH: This mod is an old project that was never completed, but I believe that the parts that do exist are in fact included in Co8 5.0.0. So you should not try to install the files found in this thread overtop your 5.0.0 installation. IIRC, what this may get you in it's current state is a book with some strange dialogue in Brother Smyth's locked chest, and maybe not even that. That is all.
*whistles innocently* I don't think this mod will work with the latest releases. Anyway, it's unfinished, so you're not missing much, really ... Ah, the memories.
You know how when people tell you stuff and you just don't listen, bad things can happen? Yeah, well that just happened to me. You guys said that it wouldn't work with the latest releases. :blahblah: So I tried the console "give 11050" thing just to get a quick look at the AoH mod. Thought "I'll do a quick map change just incase it's needed to spawn the book." Immediate CTD, no passing go, no nothin'. :anger: I'll never doubt y'all again. :notworthy
Good to see you posting Morpheus Think you'll return to this? It's something I'm ever hopeful of seeing completed as it is such a classic and beautiful idea
Oh wow, that's really a beautiful map. I just found it out for the first time. I can only guess, but I'm pretty sure this map was meant for some end game story-telling/bonus scenario. Possibly just to hail you as the victor, possibly a hidden reward for completing the game a certain way (e.g. choosing the honor and heroics fortune from Mona, or completing the game with Ted, Ed and Ed, or rescuing Thrommel, or whatever). Either way, I think this map could be PERFECT for introducing the Tales of the Sword Coast stuff. Picture this: You kill Zuggtmoy. The end slides roll, all except the one that mentions your own party's fate. The game then whisks you away to some other location, possibly the Temple Garden, where a dialogue prompt asks you whether or not you wish to continue adventuring. If not, game over, roll the rest of the slides. If yes, you trigger an encounter with several Paladins/Druids/Anti-Paladins (depending on alignment) who say they've heard of your exploits and came to investigate. You recount your deeds, and are then asked to join them and be escorted to the fabled Arena of Heroes, where new challenges and thrilling adventures may be sought... What do you think? Either way, if anyone's curious to see what this map looks like - you can reach the Arena of Heroes by opening up the console and typing: game.fade_and_teleport(0,0,0,5119,500,460) You don't need to install anything extra for the map itself and the accompanying sound effects and animations (it's possible, even probable, that it's in vanilla ToEE as well), but currently there are no critters or NPCs or anything to interact with for that matter. It's still pretty damned cool though. Check it out.
So, messing around with the files a little, I've made the mod compatible with Co8 5.0.5. If anyone wants to have a go at it: Unzip data.rar to toee root folder, and maps.rar to modules\Co8.5.0.0. Bear in mind that the mod's still very beta, and thus not really finished. But still very cool. As Morpheus said in his first post, type 'give 11050' in the console to get the book of heroes. By the way, I also took the liberty of adding a third encounter just for kicks... should be fairly challenging! (but don't expect it to be officially supported in any way)
WoW! er, i mean... WOW! This it's no small thing! Btw Sitra, this whole colosseum stuff was in the original, vanilla game...there are dlgs and all, and it has something to do with Erythnull (well, the introducing guy to it calls for it). There's also a good bunch of strange models associated with it (including a whole different model for humans) and some even stranger files... i think that i had something like a gladiator's shop or the like. After Gaear finishes all his stuff, i think that this thing should be completed. It has a lot of work already done, it would be a pity that all that work that morpheus do just stays as a beta, unfinished mod. Plus, now there are much more knowledge about scripting and other things. For example, adding more crowd, with goblins, orcs and hobgoblins, etc etc (something i've been trying to do in some useful way)... even facing completely new creatures like Slaadi, which are a type of creatures unheard on the game, but the`re in the dll (as well as formians, but we can't have a model for those)
If it were to be completed in Morpheus' absence, I'd like to see it remain true to his original vision as much as possible. iirc, you were supposed to get the book from Brother Smyth. Might have been among the contents of the locked chest you crack for him. Adding it to the modpack would also raise questions about balance and timing though: do we want to add in more XP when we're trying to take it out overall? And does an expedition to the AoH fit into the game at that point (around the time you open the chest)?
can't the combats be restricted? Since you enter each challenge thru dialog, maybe the guy that let's you fight could do a level or skill check, if you don't have the right level/skill, you can't fight.
@ HK: Are you positive about the erythnull stuff? I'm pretty sure I've gone through every single dialog/script file in the vanilla version and there was nothing like what you describe... perhaps you're confusing it with the PNP module? Or some other abandoned idea for a mod? @ Gaear: The book of heroes was indeed supposed to be in the smith's chest, instead of the Horn of Fog. In terms of difficulty level, it's fine where it is for a challenging but beatable string of encounters (the third one I added nonwithstanding, of course). The XP and GP addition it contributes is presently about 850 XP each for a party of 6 and about 2500-3000 GP (basically two hill giants worth of treasure). If you add a third encounter, a reward item and the XP for completing the mod's 'quest' then it'd probably double. I'd say it's slightly over the limit. It seems to me that Morpheus wouldn't mind if this mod were converted to what I've mentioned in my last post, judging from his posts, though obviously I can't say for sure. I hope Morpheus will turn up again like the last couple of times this mod was brought up and say what he thinks about it. Does anyone have his mail?
