    I just installed ToEE and tried to start it. I got a Visual C++ Runtime Library Error.

    I tried applying patches 1 and 2, but nothing. What should I do?

    first thought..

    go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, select "custom" - download and install all the updates where doing a "custom" update will do critical only updates

    you might have to install the bits update first...Background Intelligent Transfer Service, reboot, and then, do a custom update as mentioned previously.

    You might want to scan for viruses with an updated antivirus program, too.

    Here are some different VB Runtime failure/crash issues some people have had recently.

    Excessive Windows Temp and IE Cache files
    -> BeClean is freeware <--- click there
    * Pay attention to what is in BOLDFACE in the linked post, namely..
    !!! I WOULD SUGGEST YOU ONLY SELECT [CHECKMARK] THESE OPTIONS. !!!
    -> Internet Cache Cleaner
    -> Temporary Files Cleaner
    -> Empty Recycle Bin

    Google Toolbar with built-in Antispy tool
    1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Scroll the list until you find "Google toolbar for Internet Explorer".
    3. Remove the program and reboot your system.

    some Mcafee products
    * Maybe try doing a proper uninstall and reboot to see if the problem is gone.

    Other than the above, what changes have been done, new installations prior to ToEE? Are you using Co8 4 MOD and ToEEFE...did you install dotNET version 2.0 and reboot prior to installing ToEE and anything related to ToEE?

    (casts raise dead on thread)

    Hopefully the OP managed to fix the problem on their own. Right now, though, I find myself in the same boat. When I try to run ToEE through Toffee, I receive the error message and my cursor changes to an endlessly spinning CD. Here's what I've done to try to fix it:

    1) I've done thorough scanning for spyware and viruses and don't believe it to be caused by either.

    2) I've installed dotNET 2.0 as well as all the Windows Updates that I could download. I believe this was done before install of TOEE.

    3) I used disk clean-up to empty my temporary internet files and recycle bin. As this is a new computer, there were no other temporary program files.

    4) I've used Add/Remove programs to remove unnecessary programs and programs that are probably spyware.

    5) I've uninstalled and reinstalled TOEE and the related patches from Troika and Co8, again to no effect.

    I'll keep doing some Google research, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

    EDIT: I just did a system recovery and still no luck. I'm planning on getting a new video card soon; hopefully that will fix it (?).

    If you are getting the Visual C++ Runtime Library error listed at the top of the thread (the 1st post), here's a thought other than a replacement video card, something free to try, download and install this.

    [Regarding the constant CD spin status, search the common solutions thread about using the English version of the NO-CD patch.]

    Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)
    * The Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) installs runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries required to run applications developed with Visual C++ on a computer that does not have Visual C++ 2005 installed.
    This package installs runtime components of C Runtime (CRT), Standard C++, ATL, MFC, OpenMP and MSDIA libraries.

    Required Software:
    !!! Windows Installer 3.0 (required) or Windows Installer 3.1 or later (recommended)

    -> Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) <- click there

    Note: Install Windows Installer 3.0 or Windows Installer 3.1 PRIOR to installing the x86 version of redistributable package shown above and do not forget to try the English version of the NO-CD patch.

    Thanks a lot for the help, krunch! The no-cd patch worked and the game now runs. Hopefully this won't happen in the future with other programs... I'd hate to try fixing this error all over again! For now, though, I'm just happy to be able to play this wonderful game. :)

    Thanks again. Myself and all the other ToEE fans who you've helped truly appreciate what you do for us. :thumbsup:

    I also get the endlessly spinning CD, if I install a patch. I downloaded Net2. Do I have to remove net 1.0 and 1.1 hot fix for Net 2 to work? Ian

    No, check the other thread and do what is said there, first. And, please do not spam.

    [EDIT]
    SPINNING CD
    * IMO - have good active antivirus or have a good active antispware, too
