What's up. I love the game (Even though - maybe I'm missing something but it seems INSANELY HARD compared to most CRPGs...) a whole lot. My question is, is there any way to resurrect a fallen friend besides paying that guy in the church 1200 GOLD? That's a ton of gold, I have sold a ton of hard-earned crap and I only have like 770 now, it seems like a rediculous amount to ask. So my question is, is there any other early-game method of ressurecting characters? Thanks.
Jaroo only charges 225 gp for a reincarnation, and due to troika's implementation of the reincarnation spell (EG exactly the same as the resurrection spell) there are no nasty side effects either. [EDIT] There is also the greatest cantrip available for all players (spell casters and non-spell casters alike) Power Word Reload.
well theres always save and reload as allyx said really, the proper answer to your question lies in not dying in the first place the reason that ToEE may seem a bit harder than say baldur's gate, is that its a lot more tactical, being proper turn-based D&D rather than pseudo-turn based as in the infinity engine games/NWN etc. The elements of flanking, Attacks of Opportunity etc make for a lot more thought into actions early in the game, whereas in BG/IWD you could effectively just run your 'tank' into the enemy and use ranged damage to annihilate idiotic gibberlings Personally, i find that you should avoid going to the moathouse until you've gained a bit of experience, i remember when i first went in there, at level one, and promptly got owned by the slime/zombie fight in the first sub-level Even if you cant stand the town quests, theres still the deklo grove, and some of emridy meadows - just dont take on the giant: you dont need his head until level 5 or so. Also, and this may seem counter intuitive, but im of the belief that having a party of more than 5 characters makes life harder - 5 higher level characters seem to be more powerful than 8 lower ones, but maybe thats just me. Essentially death is commonplace at low levels (ie. lvl 1 in particular) simply from the lack of hit points - to minimise deaths you can use more than one healer, or give your healer scribe scroll which effectively gives you unlimited heals on standby, or simply summon spell cannon fodder to soak the big bad hits (lubash, hill giant in emridy meadows, raging bugbears), or to counteract early flanking scenarios like the gnoll encounter. Also, the -10hp = death rather than 0hp = death makes a lot of difference - be sure that you either drop a heal on a dying PC, or use the heal skill to stabilize them, once that's done, they may not be able to fight, but barring stray cleaves/Area attack spells they'll live to be healed afterward.
Awesome guys. Thanks for the help. Another couple of quick Q's: 1. What SHOULD I do for exp early on? Do the town quests give exp? And where can i find EASY monster to fight? 2. How do I dismiss people, cuz right now I have like the max amount of dudes, like 8 or so I think. Thanks!
theres nothing wrong with using eight people, it just makes leveling up take longer, and i find earlier access to more powerful spells, as well as BAB boosts for your barbarian etc more helpful than some extra underpowered attacks. With 5 people you can be level 5 before you finish the moathouse, but i generally dont hit lvl 5 with 8 people until i've romped around the temple a bit. One Fireball essentially will take out the bandits before lareth pretty much
Yes the town quests do give XP, not much, but if you do enough of them you can nearly hit level 3 before leaving Hommlet the first time, the Deklo grove is a good place to start hunting for more risky XP, as is Emridy Meadows (don't go near the giant) the moathouse should be relatively easy after that is all done and dusted.
Just a quick note for the original question: The bookcase in the church has a raise dead scroll. Only one, but if you've got a game you really don't want to start over, and your tanker or healer has died, it can be a life saver. That pun was intended, and I apologize for it.
Thanks guys! But - 2. How do I dismiss people, cuz right now I have like the max amount of dudes, like 8 or so I think. - question still remains!!! Thanks.
NPC's can be dismissed be simply talking to them and requesting they leave the group, PC's can be killed off, ad dismissed by pushing the red ? symbol on their portrait in the party pool. You can strip them of loot before or after they die.
thanks so much. And where are like, the easiest monsters to fight for when I'm hella-noobass, such as right now?
I would recommend you to clear the outside of the moathouse. Then, you'll notice a Tower entrance, in which you could always rest (if the Spider in there is ok with that, obviously ). What I usually do if I want to level-up a little bit is rest there, then go outside (in the yard where the brigands ambush you) and try to rest there. Usually it generates a random encounter -but you NEED to have high Survival, or will end up fighting trolls or lanterns at level 2-, and when it's over you're just a few steps away from your resting area. Also, in case of a fallen comrade, you are pretty close to Hommlet's druidic reparations
