I finally beat ToEE. Oddly enough it feels like a hollow victory (Spoilers)

As the title says I finally took my first run at actually beating ToEE. It was one of the older mods (only DH and a few of Liv's mods in this release.) I will now download the newest mod and give all the new stuff a try. I used a 7 member party with Serena as my only NPC. The party consisted of 7 female characters: the stats below apply to the party at games end.
Elf fighter 15th level; katana specialist (party leader)
Elf Cleric 15th level; sun and good domains; longsword and bow for weapons
Human 15th level barbarian; the character set aside for Scather.
Human 15th level ranger; dual wielding dwarven war axe and hand axe
Half-Elf 15th level fighter; archer specialist and quite key in my combat strategies
Human 10th level Thief/5th level fighter; archery and dual weapons (cutlass/shortsword)
Human 15th level wizard no special schools
    NPC: Serena thief 2/fighter 13 crossbow/longsword

Now comes the empty feeling I mentioned.
All along I have heard that Terjon is actually evil and would oppose the party at some point; never happened. I gathered all the pieces to the orb of golden death but never assembled it; was I suppose to destroy the orb? I never used any piece of it. I've redone the final battle with Zuggy 4 times the first wasn't a battle I made the mistake of grabbing the gems on the throne and the last 3 times I chose to fight. A good fight each time.
I look forward to the new mods and since thhe announcements of "I beat the game" from others I'm expecting more hurled rocks than congradulations.

    Happy hunting to all.

    YOU SUCK!

Seriously though, taking down Zuggy without destroying the orb is a good effort  There is certainly a way to destroy the orb, which you may or may not know - its a "who can help me with this?" sorta question.

You never assembled the orb? Are you aware that each gem gives it new powers, control fungus etc.

btw....well balanced party, betcha to try in Ironman next time :)

    Thanks

Shiningted: I'm guessing there is a certain wizard in Hommlet that can help me and the oddly placed weapons in the nodes have something to do with it. I'll test my theory during the replay.

Sirchet: I do know that the orb grants powers with each new gem but being good aligned I was not too keen on using an "evil" artifact. I am not sure about the Ironman level so please elaborate.

Iron man does not allow you to save, and you have to take the first roll for stats, no advanced point distribution. I to don't use the Orb, (playing a Paladin and all) but I can't seem to keep my Rouges hands off of it :)

I never assemble it until ready to destroy it. The gems are good to use seperately until then.

iron man is a great way to see hours of gameplay go down the shiter beacuse you're unable to save and the game crashed.

Waitaminnit ... you CAN'T SAVE with the Ironman option? You have to play through from start to finish? Or is saving only allowed in "safe" areas? The second I could live with, the first would just blow.

In Iron man mode you can only save and exit the game. You could cheat by restarting ToEE right after exiting, but what's the use of going Iron man then. It's really hard to beat the game in Iron man, I've come close but have never got all the way thru due to CTD in the most inopportune times :)

The Ironman feature was one of the reasons I bought toee. If possible, I would only play in Ironman. Unfortunately, with toee being as bugged as it is and save files getting corrupted because you sneezed too loudly, or it's raining on a Tuesday, or you ate something in the last five hours, you can't play Ironman.

Do. Not. Ever. Play. In. Ironman.

    Ever.

Unless you enjoy playing for days or weeks, only to discover your only save is suddenly corrupted and your entire campaign is lost, no recovery, no reload, game over.

Why can't you back-up the save file for your ironman game before you resume playing? Seems a logical course. I'd do several, so as to to be certain of having a good one available. Just like backing up any other files in your windows file manager. A slightly older game has got to be better than starting from scratch.
