I've got the same problem as this guy here, but no one's replied to it.

I know this post really shouldn't be here...but like I said - the other guy didn't get an answer, so I thought it might get an answer if I put it here...I, for one, would like an answer...please?

And if someone has already fixed this problem then could you post the answer here, or a link to it.

Thanks in advance. (If anyone reads this and cares)

Does this happen every time you try to play the game? It's happened to me a few times, and I had to open the task manager and end the ToEE.exe process. If I started again the game would run.

If it's a consistent problem for you, then try cleaning the CD and your CDROM lens (careful doing that BTW). This is a last resort I know, but I can't think of anything else to suggest.

I think it might be illegal for me even to suggest that you could remove the copy protection some how using some 3rd party software and run the game without a disk. And I would never suggest that you download a hacked "NOCD" version even if it would simply allow you to play the game. So please remember that I never suggested that you could search on Google to find people providing these types of legally questionable solutions!

    No help, I'm afraid...

Unfortunately I've already tried all those options - they are the obvious solutions after all...but none of them work.

This happens every time I (try to) start the game, it looks like its gonna run, but then it just closes immediately. Whats really strange is that I had it running perfectly before - with no bugs or crashes that anyone else experienced; I considered myself lucky. Then all of a sudden it stops working entirely!

I've uninstalled and reinstalled it multiple times, patched it to hell, cruised forums for answers, but none of them had my problem...until I saw the one that I linked in my previous post - no one had replied to it so...ya it didn't really make me confident. I've even tinkered with the config file, going by trial and error to see if (by some miracle) I could get it working...no use.

I've tried everything i can think of (and that includes cleaning the disk etc...and certain illegal software) but nothing has worked. To be honest I'm considering throwing in the towel with this game - I've fixed problems with my other games by myself (and thanks to helpful information I found on forums like this) but this one has got me running around in circles...its a shame really - it was quite enjoyable to play.

Thanks for trying, by the way, but yeah - I've already done all those things...at least I got a reply :)

I'll keep checking back here to see if anyone else replies...but this game is going on the back-burner until i find a solution - its caused me too much frustration for me to keep working on it.
In other words - this bites.

    Cheers for the help mate,

    Seer

It sounds to me like you must be getting a read error off the CD. Try this (if you have enough temporary disk space): copy the whole CD onto your disk drive. See if there are any errors in Event Viewer. I suspect your getting a read error on your drive. It could be a bad disk. Atari should replace it if you send it back in.

Is it possible that uninstalling leaves some files behind? You could try uninstalling, and then deleting the directory "C:\Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil" (or something like that).

Also, any reason why you don't have XP SP2 installed? You listed SP1 only. Maybe run windows update just in case.

EDIT: Oh yeah, have you checked over at the Atari forums? There might be something in the Troubleshooting forum.

Sorry, that's about all I can think of...

    Working for now...

Thanks for the advice - I cruised the Atari forums and found a thread that offered a number of solutions (here) and discovered that Reforce (the monitor program that forces decent refresh rates instead of window's crappy ones) was the problem; the game didn't like the refresh rates it set...or the program...either way; when I put the settings back to default it worked again. I could run the game in a window before (as suggested by someone on the Atari forum) so I wondered if it didn't like it or something, and...well...it didn't. *Shrugs* So its working now and I'm happy; I just hoping nothing else goes wrong :\.

Considering how buggy the game is I doubt this is the solution for everyone - just keep looking if it isn't, you'll find it eventually like I did. Don't think I'll be buying any more Atari games though, at least not until I find out whether its as buggy as ToEE or not :finger:.

So thanks for the help, and good luck to anyone else who has the same problem :).

    Thanks again for the help,

    Seer
