Processor/Host Bus Support Intel Pentium III processor and Intel® Celeron™ Processor in FC-PGA package Supports processor 370-Pin Socket 66/100/133MHz System Bus Frequency 32 MB to 512 MB using 16Mb/64Mb/128Mb/256Mb technology Supports up to 3 double sided DIMMs at 100 MHz system memory bus Supports up to 2 double sided or 3 single sided DIMMs at 133 MHz system memory bus. Unbuffered, Non-ECC SDRAM only supported Supports a single AGP device via a connector Supports AGP 2.0 including 4x AGP data transfers 230 MHz RAMDAC The above, and as I posted before, those are the motherboard specs and include support for the integrated video. These are general specs as the 82815 chipsets found their way in to HP, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, etc. plus all the motherboard manufacturers (ASUS, MSI, etc.). fyi - Like you said, the computer is over 5 years old (and the game is about 3 years old). * One time, I did a major upgrade to a 82815e computer [with a 700 MHz Intel PIII cpu (the minimum operating frequency), not a Celeron cpu] for it to run ToEE--I added RAM totalling 512 MB (the max amount) and also added a nVidia FX 5500 OC (a PCI version) and ToEE ran, but the video graphics were intermittently sluggish. If you add a video card, I would suggest you buy an ATI Radeon video card with 64 MB or 128 MB that has a PCI connector, not a nVidia video card. According to further searching on the Intel site, please read the following. It seems the most DVMT will dynamically allocate and add is up to 10 MB to the 16 MB default for a total of 26 MB toward video. (This considers you have the PV6 series of Intel drivers installed.) This amount of RAM is just above the minimum amount needed for ToEE to run. The minimum amount of RAM does not mean the video and graphics will run smoothly, assuming the game will run. The choice to buy a new video card is your call. Finally, the 82810 and 82815 series of motherboards with integrated video were intended for 2D graphics. They minimally support 3D graphics. A good ATI Radeon video card with 64 MB of RAM is inexpensive. Check this out -> $ 33 GeCube Radeon 7000 64MB PCI Video Card * Like I said, it's your call, but just this 33 dollar video card would make the game enjoyable and fun on that computer. ** "This standard PCI video card features the ATi Radeon 7000 GPU with 64 MB of DDR RAM to deliver superior visuals up to 2048 x 1536 at 85 Hz. It's perfect for systems with no AGP or PCI Express slot that you'd like to upgrade to a better video card - or that you'd like to add multiple monitors"
Whoa there! Did you install Patch 2? ToEE.exe is 1.5 MB before Patch 2 installation. Patch 2 removes the game engine from ToEE.exe and puts it in a file called temple.dll. The resulting post Patch 2 ToEE.exe should only be about 33 KB.
pre-patch1 = 5.00 MB (5,242,881 bytes) pre-patch2 = 4.91 MB (5,156,864 bytes) post-patch2 = 1.65 MB (1,734,144 bytes)
@CtB: You make mistakes far less often and very much less frequently than most, if not all people here. * The only reason I knew the ToEE.exe was 1.6 MB after patch2 is because I have reinstalled ToEE so many times--my method to reinstall to a patched revision is super fast as I have everything ready and organized to reinstall ToEE when wanted.
And we have a winner (I think) ... Krunch! I moved my computer to open it up and see what kind of slots is has (PCI and/or AGP - has both), and I noticed a sticker on the side. The same sticker that was there when I bought the computer. Says - up to 11 MB dynamically allocated as video memory. Looks like I'm in the market for a video card. Thanks for all the assistance; you guys are wonderfully helpful. Special thanks to Krunch for all the info. I'll repost when I get the new card in.
Went to the computer parts store down a few blocks away and picked up an AGP nVidia GeForce4 MX 420 (64 MB) for $20. Problem solved. Game loads fine, now I'm ready to start playing. Thanks again for all the help.
