I purchased ToEE in the bargain bin, still new in the box, and have had problems with not being able to launch the program. It installed, but I just got the spinning CD when I try to launch. I downloaded the Atari patches 1 and 2, and downloaded the ToEEFE. I updated to .NET v.2, and the ToEEFE comes up fine, problem arises again when I try to launch the game. Same spinning disk. I downloaded the v.2 no-cd patch and pasted that Toee.exe over the existing one and had no success. (Though I did notice that the patch ToEE.exe is a much, much smaller file than the ToEE.exe I pasted it over). Still wouldn't launch. Anything else I can try? I appreciate the help.
What I would do is a complete reinstall. Sounds like your original install may not have installed correctly.
I'll try reinstalling again. I've done it once, but that was before updating .NET. In the meantime, any other suggestions are appreciated.
It sounds like your copy of ToEE has the .dll bundled inside the .exe, which is not all that uncommon but which makes for major headaches if you want to use third party mods. Everything should still be able to work if you follow these instructions. Uninstall everything. Follow instructions for re-installation in this thread. Install a no-cd crack: specifically the one referenced here. After all that, you should have all the neccesary (and non-defective) parts of the game in the state in which they need to exist, and hopefully your game will work. Good luck.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll reinstall per the Zebedee instructions and then update to let you know what happened. Fingers crossed!
Ok, here's the latest. Uninstalled everything. Followed the Comprehensive ToEE Installation Instructions by Zebedee. Everything going great up until step 6. ToEEFE loaded up fine but once I clicked launch game got the old spinning disc. ToEE makes a brief appearance in my bottom toolbar, but closes right away. Screen never changes. I applied the ToEE no-cd patch v.2 (which is a 33 KB file) and pasted it over the ToEE file (a 1.5 MB file). Tried to run again with the frontend, and no spinnning disc this time but same crash. I am running at refresh rate of 75 HZ, 800x600. I checked windows updates for any driver updates, none. Running .NET 2. I also did the Alcohol 120% to make a copy of install and play discs, no difference. Kicking the machine and throwing the CDs around the room is not working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know if this will help, but recently when trying to install TOEE on a friend's computer I saw the same "launch, spin, and shut down problem." After numerious install attempts I believe the problem is that the video card (was only 8Meg) is not sufficient. I ordered a new one, but it hasn't arrived as of yet, so I don't know if this will be the solution. I believe the TOEE program takes at least a 32M video card. Good luck! When you get it working TOEE is hella fun!
Hi all: The system requirements are as follows Operating System......................Windows 98/Me/2000/XP Processor..................................Pentium III 700 MHz Memory....................................128 MB RAM Hard Disk Space........................1.1 GB Free CD-ROM Drive...........................4X Speed Video......................................16 MB Windows 98/Me/2000/XP-compatible 3D video card Sound.....................................Windows 98/Me/2000/XP-compatible sound card DirectX....................................DirectX version 9.0 or higher Just thought I'd post this for those who don't have the game manual anymore
Looks like I meet the system specs. The only one I am unsure of is the video card. Looks like I've got Intel 82815 graphics controller. Is that good enough, or am I looking in the wrong place? Could all these problems be from a bad install disc, or is there something else I need to try?
ernoy: Are you using a laptop? It sounds like you have a built in graphics controller, (part of your motherboard) if so, check and see how much memory is allocated to it, and you may be able to raise it, shared memory. I'm not sure what os you have but you should be able to see this from control panel, system, hardware, device manager, display adapters. click on the + to show your video card and double click the card to view properties. Hope this is of help.

@krunch: am I correct in assuming he can increase the shared mem with his integrated graphics controller?
Yes, he should be able to increase the amount of shared SDRAM memory in the BIOS...suggests sharing 32 MB memory. 16 MB + 32 MB = 48 MB I would recommend having 256 MB (or 512 MB) of memory in the computer, itself, and sharing 64 MB of RAM. 16 MB + 64 MB = 80 MB
I am using a Compaq Persario 5000, WIndows XP service pack 2, 256 RAM, Celeron processor, 1.3 GHz. The computer is five years old. DirectX is ok. I can't manually adjust the memory allocation (http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel815/sb/cs-009156.htm) but do I need to? Shouldn't it work as is, or does this not qualify as a '3D video card'?
Looks like my graphic controller is ok.
