    Those thoughts echo mine, but perhaps the hand crossbow could be left on his body. It's the earliest opportunity, as far as I know, to acquire the weapon.

    Well I'm glad it wasn't just me.

    Since the point of this Drow is to TPK if goaded into combat, I don't suppose it matters what you put in its inventory, but of course there will be the inevitable players who just HAVE to kill it to prove they can :yawn:

    Hi all:
    I wouldn't call this a bug but, after getting the quest to find the swamp lotus I made my usual umpteen trips back and forth between town and the moathouse waiting for the swamp encounter, my party is lvl 2 with 3 characters and I got jumped by 5 shadows twice. Either my tactics suck or maybe thier just a littlt to much for such a young party.
    btw...I really like it when Terjon says "Co8 appeared and came to thier aid" in the battle for Emery's meadow, also zombies saying "brains" is a nice touch.

    Well, I don't know if they are a little much at that level. They don't have that many hit points and they do very little damage. The toughest thing about them is that it takes magic weapons to hit them. That is where the Magic Weapon spell comes in really handy.

    Looking things over, I see that Co8 has already increased the dc of that encounter. Before, your first level party could get jumped by 5 shadows. Now that can only happen to a second level or higher party. Co8 did make it more likely to get the swamp maps in a random encounter, thus slightly increasing the probability of encountering shadows.

    The group_average_level function is something I have been thinking about for a long time now (it is used in the code that decides whether or not an encounter of a particular dc is appropriate for the party). It does factor in party size, but not in a meaningful way. It was so poorly written that a party of one character will have the same group average level as a party of 8 characters of the same level. Perhaps it is time I did something about this.

    Weapon proficiency feats (focus, specialisation, etc.)
    are not enabled in the .dll making weapons like Spear
    (proto entry no. 4117) useless. Either make it a longspear
    (which has the same stats but can't be thrown) or enable
    the feat.

    Hi !

    I've a CTD while killing the spiders in deklo with the 5.0.2 version. As soon as the last spider dies, the game crashes, i'v uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still the same. Any idea ?


    EDIT : everything 's gone OK ! I had to uninstall again, reinstall and unpack the 5.0.2 CMF in the root folder instead of copying each file one by one and now it works fine.

    I wanted to report a problem I'm having with 5.0.3.
    On the Hickory Branch map the Dire Boar that's all the way over to the left seems to be stuck in the trees, combat initiates but he doesn't move and I can't engage him in melee. I can shoot him with my bow, and kill him. Also the Orc Sergent in the lower right doesn't fall down when he dies.....says he's dead -10 HP. I had a ctd when exiting the temple after freeing the girls from Verbobonc, (couldn't duplicate it)

    Well.......that's my 2 cents :)

    How much trouble would it be to move Hedrack's chests back to the big circular room and remove the "bouncing ball" things. Replace them with 3 Noble Salamanders. A little more challenging, maybe. Just a thought.

    Those chests have always been there wizgeorge, protected by all the fungus and oozes.

    I know the chests have been there as part of the original game, but it's kind of cheap to have that much treasure guarded by the oozes and such. A few fireballs and it's over.
    Speaking of chests, how about a Wand of Identify in one of the earth altar chests. Wand of Hold Person isn't very useful. Maybe i'd quit using the console for the wand. Sorry, I ain't paying a 100gp everytime.

    Yeah. Never mind the 3000 other things you had to kill to get down into that area of the 4th level, including Hedrack & Co. Just console something harder in, if you want. You don't seem to mind it when it comes to saving 100 gp for the entire pool of knowledge on some strange piece of gear you've owned for 5 minutes. :jerkin:

    I still think iit's a cheesy encounter and no challenge for 10+ level pc's. It's not that the treasure hasn't been earned over the course of the game. In that location I would expect a more difficult encounter.
    So, what is so wrong with putting a Wand of Identify in place of Hold Person? There's only one in the game in 3rd level and it's not a game unbalancing idea.
    Just a thought.

    There is a concept being discussed in this thread that an excess of treasure is part of what is unbalancing the game. Adding a Wand of Identify at a place in the game where, let's be honest, the party is not exactly hurting for cash, just so people don't have to spend 100 gold per cast, wouldn't help matters.

    On the other hand, and this has not been confirmed AFAIK, there has been a report that casting Identify with the wand still costs you 100 gold.

    I myself just got sick of having to cast Identify (and Read Magic for that matter) on ever item individually, so I hacked the Mass Identify script (available somewhere on this forum) into the Read Magic script, so that with one cast of a 0 level spell I identify every item in every party members inventory simultaneously, and at no cost.

    Before you ask, there is no way I am going to publicly release that little hack. It is a total rules breaker, and if people want to cheat that much they should learn to do it for themselves. ;)

    The wand is a convience for lazy bums like me, and it doesn't charge the 100gp. I think the excess is in gems, jewelry, certain amulets and necklaces that aren't even usable. I just thought replacing the hold person with identify would be cool and reduce the guilt complex for cheating with the console.
