Currently there are no prestige classes; and you need to use spells to identify items o_O

read magic works on scrolls/potions, identify works on magic weapons/armor/wondrous items etc.

So far as i know thats the way you do things, and there arent currently any skills modded in to identify things :p

someone (ted?) posted somewhere the other day saying that 'we cant implement prestige classes' but i dont know the specifics myself :sadblinky

    All traders can identify items.

Adding Prestige Classes will require a serious amount of .dll hacking, without the source code this nigh impossible to do.

You should ask Atari for it :) though I dunno if they'd give it. Do they know you guys have made major improvements on the game already?

Does Atari have any plans on making an expansion or sequel of any kind to TOEE?

Only they know. There's no talk of it anywhere. The only thing happening with it is what Co8 has going on. We'd like to get our hands on the designer's toolset, but that ain't happenin' right now either.

have you guys had some e-conversations with them? Do they like the fixes and additions and tried them theirselves? If they have no wish to do anything further with TOEE, such as add-ons, or further games that are like it they may in time give you the code I suppose.

    Hi all:

Maybe one the D&D rules lawyers on our board can answer this question. Why does it cost 100 gold to cast identify? even with the wand it looks for 100 gold. I don't remember paying gold to cast it any of the pnp or other crpg's (memory could be failing)

    Hey Templar:
I believe there is a thread just about that issue :)

The material componants for Identify are a 100gp pearI, wine, and an owls feather, though what exactly happens after the caster has drank that concoction is up to the DM. ;)

DM: "After spending the last 3 days Identifying all the group member's items, the mage staggers out of the makeshift lab absolutely paralitic, leaning on a nearby member of the towns constabulary for support he says, "What a shhiney helmet you have, shhir *HIC*." and is promptly arrested for being drunk in charge of a magic wand."

As for the 100 gp on the wand,,,that does not make sense. In the PnP thought you should have to buy the material comps for each spell(we blew them off,,too much hassle)..The way i would think Identify would work is that you would buy the 100 gp pearl, grind that and the feather in the wine, catch as buzz and gain the insight and wisdom as to what the item is.

You powder the pearl, mix it in the wine with an owl's feather, then drink it...after swallowing a live minature carp (goldfish). The caster loses 8 points of constitiution temporarily; if it falls below 3, then s/he falls unconscious until it wears off 8 hours later. No one would willingly cast two of these in a day, I should think. 100 GP is a minimal cost which covers only the value of the pearl. An NPC spell caster would want at least 500. As for why the wand charges you money, that is beyond me. It would be definetly considered in the recharging or creation of said wand, however.

In 3.5 ed, you don't need the goldfish and don't lose any CON.

To get an NPC spellcaster to cast the spell for you, (P129 PHB) it SHOULD cost 100gp for the pearl plus 10gp x their caster level x the spell level. So if you get a 5th level caster to perform identify, they would charge you 150gp. You will note that fees for casting spells are only 10gp x caster level x spell level, whereas scroll scribing as a service costs 25gp x CL x spell level. This is because it takes more time to scribe a scroll than simply to cast it (and also for game balance reasons, behind the curtain!)

The wand shouldn't charge any money to cast the spell. The component cost DOES have to be paid when its created in the first place, though, by the rules. I have not noticed being charged money when using my identify wands (I am still using 4.01, though). What I HAVE noticed is that it is far too cheap to create identify wands in the first place. They are a no-brainer even if you never create another wand at all!

That is a process that would take a lot of time. Through a group effort over the last several months (years?), there will soon (hopefully) be a mod coming out for the Keep On The Borderlands PnP adventure. But, the likelyhood of any more coming out anytime even relatively soon is small.
