    Just joined and voted.

    ...

I would love to see a toolset kit for ToEE.
I'm just skeptical about it, because NWN2 release might affect ToEE too.
They both cater to a similar share of buyers.
And from what I've read over Bioware forums, some users are *quite* upset over NWN2, comparing it negatively to initial ToEE buggy release.

If you were to add new contents/campaigns, and in particular implement a way to export/import chars throughout modules, you would effectively create NWN 1.5 - and SP-oriented ppl might never bother to buy NWN2 at all.

    ...

    Just a guess.

:shrugno: ToEE = NWN v1.5? That's the stuff nightmares are made of. :shame:

If ToEE was more like NWN, I would've stopped playing it years ago. ;)

Hehe, well - it just seems like Atari simply can't release games any other way. They did it with ToEE, and they did it again with NWN2. Yes, both games got released in a very buggy and unoptimized state, it's true.

Apparently, unlike Orson Welles and wine, Atari has no trouble selling a game before its time.

I would be very interested in this.

As a sort of aside, would the tools simply allow creating additional maps, etc or would it allow additional classes, Prestige classes, monsters, etc

Eh! I know some ppl consider NWN1 blunt and lacking finesse. :)

But it has some pro's, thanks of course to the NWN modding community.
A coder even managed to inject a pseudo-party management feature, so it's not as bad as it used to be, for SP-oriented players.

    ...

Sure, it's nothing like ToEE, tactics and graphics-wise, but I've learnt to cope with 3d c-rpgs a while ago...
Just think of the possibilities of merging ToEE's rule system with a hybrid 2d/3d engine and a true toolset kit.

    ...

Well, that's basically why I voted yes on the poll. :D

So, has there been any progress made in this endeavour? Has anybody managed to get ahold of Atari or anybody else about getting this released?

I would support this. I actually played ToEE before having played NWN. When I got to NWN I couldn't believe how bad the combat system was in comparison to ToEE. The only campaign I found to be fun in NWN1 was Hordes of the Underdark. I quit the OC within a few hours and never came back.

I've also recommended ToEE to several other people in various online games and on forums, largely in part to your patch making it more playable/enjoyable. The graphics are notably worse than NWN but, for me, the meat of a single-player oriented RPG is its combat system (which really needs a turn-based function to work in my opinion). So, all in all, I'd have to say ToEE is a better game than NWN.

I bought NWN2 a few weeks ago and have played through it a couple of times. The storyline seems to be the main draw for the NWN series. I was sad to see that there was little improvement with its combat system. I was hoping it would have some sort of toggle to allow for a turn-based option (along the lines of what Fallout: Tactics had). And, while I was glad to see the party limit increased from three to five, it would still be nice to have the five to eight range that ToEE allows for.

If NWN had a combat system like ToEE has and if its graphics engine allowed for larger maps I would invest much time into making my own modules. As it is, it just seems like an empty pursuit. And, ironically, Atari's other AD&D PC game (ToEE; which is by far more enjoyable to long time AD&D fans) doesn't have a toolset available for its consumers; which is the point of this thread. So anyway, to reiterate, yes I most whole-heartedly support your efforts in obtaining access to ToEE's toolset ;o)

I think it's it high time someone started a petition at some petition site.
I mean many people visit this site, (over 40 guests daily) but can't vote
because they don't register. Well, a petition site also needs some input,
but it's faster to type in ones name and e-mail IMO and it makes the
    campaign a bit more "official".

I have searched far and wide(years!!) for a true to PnP-crpg.The other day I saw a link to ToEE demo which I never tried due to its bad reviews.Well I was instantly in love and that became stronger after finding the CO8 group. There is so much to love about the combat in ToEE compared to NWN.NWN has me just pointing attack on a character and watching while ToEE has me pissed and screaming and loving every minute of the combat system.Theres others assets that are too numerous to mention in one post.I also love the 2D backgrounds as they can become so weathered and realistic looking to me compared to a 3D background which cant due to performance issues.

I would be carful in what you ask for from Atari.I was very into a racing simulation called Grand Prix Legends years back.GPL never had any modding tools, yet it was modded extensivley over the years. The main improvement was in the car models which went from looking terrible to absolute realism. This was a slow process and it took years before they cracked the code so to speak:)They even went on to model other years of vintage racing complete with new cars, tracks etc. Here is a site that shows dedication. http://www.kotr.de/GPL/

The company who made GPL went on to produce Nascar Racing2003.This was also extensively modded and everything looked peachy for awhile.

This was great until the company that made both games decided that it wanted to further the online racing simulation aspect and went ahead and started cutting down modders claiming it was now illegal to mod its Nascar Racing 2003.They even took one guy to court who refused to stop modding after lawyers were calling him to end his attempts at releasing mods.

Now while I love ToEE,I am afraid that if ToEE is made better,Atari will cut down on the modding for fear of losing customers that should have purchased NWN2 instead purchasing bargain bin/used games. If they release the source code...can you imagine what thetalent here could do???

Better 3D models and fighting animations.BTW...love the critical hit animations that are in.
More feats/prestige classes and spells added.
A finetuned point and click system(so you can accuretley place your players on map)
More sounds added and cued in(would love to see undead moaning as they cower while turned).....errr hear that is

A big thing is to have all the classic D&D modules converted into ToEE with the enthusiam of a fan rather than an employee

This would become the ultimate D&D game for some time...that is until 3D could be made to look as good as 2D in regards tobackgrounds.Lets face it the generic look of 3D just makes every place feel the same. The 2D backgrounds add to the exploration feel and hence to the imagination of playing a PnP game.

I know this is a downer but it could happen.

Why not finish killing every bug in ToEE.Finish up every other mod that will contribute to this gem. Then add in the final piece which is the completed KoTB mod.Wrap it up and send to Atari asking for them to re/release the new and improved ToEE.Ask for no compensation...just that they release ToEE with an editor(no source code) this time. This way you guys get what you want and we/your fans get new modules added to this gem at a nice fast pace.:)
