Today I noticed that I have the assasin reputation for killing the lord viscount of verbobonc in my logbook although I never killed him, even saw him. Actually I never have been to Verbobonc either. What is happening here then? Any comments? FYI I played the game with CO8 5.0.0 with front end and today I installed 5.0.1. I am not sure whether this assasin rep came out after I applied 5.0.1 or not. Edit : I checked my older saves when I only had 5.0.0 and I still had that assasin rep, if it would give any clue...
You most likely had the Grud Buddy reputation. One of the changes in 5.0.2 swapped the Grud Buddy and Assassin reps in the game files so that the Assassin rep could make a Paladin fall. I believe that this was only done in 5.0.2 though, not in 5.0.1. I don't know why it would be happening with 5.0.1.
Thanks cerulean... but do you think this will affect the events in verbobonc when I go there. I didn't go there yet and actually I have no idea about the content and the quests of verbobonc so I would be really sorry if the game counts this lord dead and me being a murderer and screws the quest(s) that I would like to do.
No, but the Grud Buddy rep was just outside of the range of reps that made Paladins fall. Spellslinger extended that range by one to include rep 19, which used to be Grud Buddy. Allyx then moved the Assassin rep to rep 19 and Grud Buddy to whatever rep number the Assassin rep used to be. But like I said, I don't recall implementing that in 5.0.1.
Being Grud's buddy would be a bad thing for anyone who wished to have a good reputation. I just think it's odd to get it for killing a menace to all navigation in the area. Maybe doing it will be a gateway to a new quest that should make one's paladin fall. Grud is actually Tolub's Lieutenant.
Related input?- I think I had the exact opposite problem in my first 5.0.0/5.0.2 game. I killed the Viscount and did not get the reputation. The Verbobonc populace took threatening/attack postures when I came around, but did not attack. They were still following an earlier reputation that had my party as "much loved" when I talked to them, the best I could tell. The only exception was the innkeeper, but that didn't happen right away, and might have had something to do with killing someone on the premises....
Actually, as I remember it, I didn't extend the range here. But the range that is covered in the dll switch is limited to the original Troika reps. To avoid having to recode the whole thing, we decided to switch places with a rep inside that range and make that a pal tripper. The Buddy rep was chosen just because it wasn't too much work to do the switch in the scripts.
You folks know this is going to give me headaches for KotB. Castellan: I now dub thee Sir @pcname@, Baron of the Yoemanry, for thy noble efforts in destroying the Temple of Evil Chaos and assuring the safety of the realm in Heironeous' name! <paladin falls>
I'm not sure if you are serious here, but we can easily change the troika rep range in terms of pal trippability. And if it is just this one, you can use the notes to revert it back for the KotB dll.
