Has anyone played it, especially lately? I played it a lot for a month or so but ultimately could not learn to let go of the fact I could never solo anything. I have a weird work schedule so joining a guild is usually out of the question and playing with random morons on a MMO is a recipe for disaster. I hear it has more solo content now. It has also been updated at least twice since I last played. When I was playing, they were just about to release the first "module". I hated the Eberron world and those idioitic "robots" that were a playable race. The race noone ever played. I can't go back to WoW and I can't wait for Conan. ToEE is only going to last me another week or two and my D&D addiction has been stoked. WoW is a pretty fun game until you get to 60. Then it becomes a game of "Lets run the same instances over and over so we can pray that we get our 1% loot drop..." I loved Baldur's Gate I and II. I have never played Icewind Dale or NeverwinterNights. I liked Oblivion but the autoleveling was a dealbreaker for me. I liked DungeonSiege I. The demo for DSII is uninspiring. I also loved Diablo I and II. Any suggestions guys? I bet one of you will give me a great recommendation.
Planescape: Torment is supposed to be pretty good. Not d&d, but a lot of people like the Fallout series (& I just read an mmo is in the works for it now, though it won't be playable for a few years . . . ) and also not d&d, but Knights of the Old Republic is supposed to be superior as well. You could mine this thread for suggestions as well: http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4153.
I'd do a web search for the Gibberlings Three forums, Pocket Plane Group, and BG TuTu. You can re-play BG1 using the BG2:ToB engine, with a huge number of new romances, dialogs, and quests added. Then go into the fully modded out SOA and ToB. There's at least 300 hours of game play there, and much of the new content is every bit up to or beyond the writing standards of the original game.
I played on trial account there. I would pretty much like it if it were a single player game with some good plot, but having played with veterans in party I couldn't even use my rogue skills because everyone knew where to go and what to do. MMO sucks in my opinion, it can be fun if players try to role-play a little, though. I really regret that I haven't finished BG2 campaign with my brother through the net, it was really something, even though we haven't left the prison yet (and still we played for something like 4 hours, straight out of sheer pleasure of role-playing ^_^).
Maggit, there are servers that are strictly RP. Also, if you request not to rush at the start of a dungeon, that means you don't want to be told where something is. I had forgotten that complaint about DDO and I agree with you completely. One more reason that you should be able to solo anything OR hire NPCs at least. Now, you should have to be capable, smart, and a reasonably high level but soloing should at least be built into the mechanics.
Hi all: I played the free demo 3 times (different e-mail accounts) I liked it and did alot of solo quests in the city, I don't like the leveling up system. Where did the 5 sublevels per level idea come from? In order to become level 2 you had to reach some ungodly amount of xp, but the graphics were pretty good for a MMO. If you are a Baldur's Gate fan you have to go to www.blackwyrmlair.net it's where most of the mods are made and then added to The Glibbering 3. I was fotunate enough to be involved with the testing part of two of thier mods and it's a great group of people.......not as Super Great and Amazingly Cool as the "Co8" crew. hehe
