Guys, I've heard you describing lag in the nodes. You warned me about it. But, what exactly are we talking about? Because I'm not experiencing what I would even describe as lag. It's more like total game freezes for one full minute or more. Earth node wasn't bad, water node was bad, fire was worse and air is almost unplayable. The game is sometimes freezing for 3 or more minutes. Interestingly, when I Alt-Ctrl-Del, it will at first show ToEE as "Not Responding". Then if I maximize ToEE and then minimize it a few seconds later, it will show as "responding" again. As a possibly related topic, I'm also running around with Resist Fire and Protection From Fire effects, long after the spell has worn off. Is this what you guys meant by having Jaroo fix spell permanency AND is this exacerbating my node lag? Sigh. Thanks, guys.
Yup. That's what the Node lag is like for me, though Fire is generally the worst for me and I don't have much, if any, lag in the Water node at all. Air and Earth are about equally laggy for me, though nowhere near as bad as Fire. Any sort of flashy spell effects, like the fire protection spells or mirror image will drastically increase your lag.
Best thing to do for the lag is go into the video adjustments and turn off anti-aliasing and gloss mapping and adjust the particle fidelity down to around 30-40. Also dont move farther ahead of your group while they are moving. Let them stop and then move the screen around to where you want them to go next. Hopefully this will help ya out.
Node lag is a well known and hideous problem. Look for the stuff posted by Krunch and Allyx for some possible solutions. One or two minutes is good; I can't play the nodes at all due to 15 minute lags or total freezes.
Something I noticed last time I played the game, if I kept the mouse pointer well away from my characters (as in not letting it be close enough to select any of them them if I clicked) outside of combat, it reduced (but didn't eliminate) the chance of the game lagging. It may have just been coincidence, though.
Also, don't move the mouse around while the characters are in the act of walking. Just click the spot where you want them to go, and let them move. Short moves are best, I've found, and so is keeping the cursor away from the map corners. Move the map, and then click again without mousing around. It'll be less likely to slow or freeze.
i have found that in some cases the lag is innevitable(like in the fire node.)however if you save when you first enter new node and game gets...shall we say sticky, i reload and that helps for a bit. also anytime i scroll to the edge of blackness(uninvestigated area)i get some lag but only in fire and earth. best solution i found was to take small steps and head straight north to gaurdian. less time in node less time pounding on keyboard :anger:
If u r a regular FPS player, then yes, we are using the term 'lag' loosely: we mean slowdowns and temporary (or permanent) freezes.
Everything you guys suggested seemed to help immensely. Thanks, guys. I also noticed at least twice, that if you quit the game and restart it, the lag is noticably better as well. This happened to me because I initially thought the game had completely crashed.
