    occording to the console comand...

21 = Zuggtmoy (Earth, Air, Fire, Plant, Water)

so if you want to check make a CE non-cleric, use
    game.party[0].stat_base_set(stat_deity,21)
    then
    levelup
    to a cleric
check what domains you can chose

Check out the Encounter Level of that encounter by PNP rules- approx EL 13-are you surprised that they wiped the floor with you?!? Of course, by rights the Noble Salamanders should get DISPEL MAGIC (bye bye protection spells-ouch!) or summon HUGE fire elemental, so you do get some mercy...

I got wiped out the first time through as well. At EL 13, you SHOULDN'T be able to survive unless you prepare with foreknowledge (you "get a bad feeling about this" if you want to justify it!) or leave the room until a lot later in the game (perhaps). I know you get a bigger party than is expected in the PNP game EL calculations, but even so...

Its one of the problems with a CRPG because returning to saved positions is expected. Also, this sort of thing happens a lot elsewhere because of the conversion from the original adventure to the more dangerous D&D 3.5 without cutting the monster numbers down. Don't get me wrong, though- I still love the Co8 version of this game!

On a fire temple related note, when I last played I was hoping to take various pro energy scrolls for any elemental challenge, but that proved ineffective due to the way that pro SCROLLS don't let you select the element you want to protect against. Is that fixed in co8 5 or is it stil random?

If you have a wizard 5th level or higher, they can have protection from energy spells. Scrolls aren't selectable for what element you want. Stoneskin is great if it's available. If you have Burne in the party did you buy his cone of cold scroll first? Without the protection spells, stoneskin and cold/ice assets, this a tough fight.

Agreed with WG. I'll just add that Protection from Elements is a 1st level spell and lasts 24 Hours. Resist Energy lasts 10min per level, and it's only a second level spell. If you have just two or three spell casters, there's no reason for lower HP party members not to have one of these spells running the whole time you're in the Temple. Your characters know what a Fireball is, and they know that they're going up against foes powerful enough to use them somewhere in the Temple. Why not prepare?

The problem with Protection from Energy(Fire) is it causes(or appears to) considerable lag in the fire temple/node. A party of 6 with Protection and stoneskin and ice/cold spells, scrolls, etc can do the firetemple okay. Remember, Fragarach/Scather will not work and lock-up the game.

Everything causes lag in the Fire Temple and Node. That's always been one of the most annoying aspects of ToEE. ;)

Well from an in game standpoint I would definately be well rested and buffed preparred etc. The group knows that they are about to ransack a Temple of Fire. Temples are usually goung to be defended by all sorts of magic and what not. I would want to be as ready as possible, as your group is in the middle of a huge fortress fille dwith all sorts of nasties.

I actually went in low on hit points etc. My buffs were running out and I had just defeated Arliem or whatever his name is when I looted the chest in the Fire Temple. I did what I could but I perished due to the Fire balls. I reloaded and tried again from a rested standpoint and it was still a good battle. I wish there were more of those kinds of battles in this game.

Icewind Dale 1 was full of these types of battles. I know of and play a lot of other games as well, but I am getting in the mood to reinstall IWD etc.

I will finish the Nodes first in the temple. I am very thankful for the Circle of Eight people. They reawakened my desire to play ToEE. Thanks to them I am having a blast.

    Pystal out

well i went in the first time in pretty good shape as i started with one of the temples on each trip in. i always have a ice storm ready and that helped a little. my barbarian had a ring of fire resisitance and that helped. i only sent one person up to talk so my group was spread out in the temple and the fireballs didnt hurt to badly and i summoned up some elementals to help so i survived it but half the party was killed and i limped out after it to get fixed up, praying for no random encounters. the only thing ive changed since then is doing more buffing before any possible major fight.
