I was looking around the dusty ruins of the Atari TOEE frontpage, checking out old things, and I noticed something. Look at different pages on there. for eg: http://www.atari.com/toee/dev_journal.php and http://www.atari.com/toee/news.php Notice that different portraits come up on the right hand side of the page? Quite a few of which I have never seen. Are these actually in the files somewhere? Or are they MIA?
The three on the right are in the default portrait pack for character generation. I tried installing the CO8 portraits and they all look like arrows.
That is because you need to go into ToEEFE and select the pack that you want to use. If it installed correctly, select the all portraits and they should appear for you. Note that there are more faces in that package than what the game will allow you to see all at once. But if you select the female 1 and then the male 1 differently and create the characters. After that go back and select the all portraits again and they will all show up.
The portraits do still exist though, just look at the Avatar selection in the ToEE list for this very forum all the ones that Troika didn't use, and some they did use are in that list. Maybe they were released with the demo version, but ditched for the full release?
Is there any way to change a portrait for a character already created? I just downloaded the new portrait packs (nice job by the way!) but don't want to have to re-roll just to change the portraits. I tried to see if I could figure out a way to do this but could not figure out a way without just creating a whole new character.
I think it's possible, but requires a bit of hex editing on the .ToEEPC to make it work... There's a thread around here somewhere that deals with turning a regular PC into a Vrock, part of the tutorial discusses the location of the number in that file that deals with the portrait and how to find the number of the portrait you want to replace it with. It is however much easier to just reroll the character, and even hex editing the .ToEEPC file will not affect any of the saved games the PC was used in prior to the change.
Thanks Allyx. If I find the urge to learn how to do that I just may for learning's sake. And yes, I didn't want to re-roll because I am one of those nut jobs that can't seem to keep my finger off the re-roll button until I find two 18's and a 17 (or similar). Well, since I just love pushin that button I just may do that anyway:suprised: . Thanks again for the direction assistance. Keep up the awesome work ya'll. Maybe someday I'll learn enough to offer assistance of my own.
