What kind of weapon is a katana listed as

    I installed the patch and saw that katanas are now available at the monk's shop. I was wondering what kind of weapon they were listed as.

    Is it a great sword, long sword, or something else? The reason why I asked is I wanted to give it to my theif and it said that he was not profecient with it. I dont think its labeled as a great sword...and since he's an elf and has the elvin weapons slot I dont think its a long sword either.

    Thanks! So I take it you can specialize in it if you choose martial weapons, bastard sword?

    If not maybe they could add it to the weapon specialization section in the feats section.

    In answer to the rpevious two posts:

    To use the katana one-handed you need to obtain exotic weapon proficiency: bastard sword as a feat.

    And it isn't a monk's shop - it is the blacksmith in Hommlet (who does claim to be a disciple of the Old Faith and the Druid's apprentice, so "monk's shop" is a forgiveable description) :)
