So I'm playing Temple again & I've gotten myself on the level w/ the juggernaut. That 1st room where you're attacked by those air elementals. Anyway, my picture is WAY sluggish & choppy to the point where I can't play it at all. It's fine elsewhere & I've already got both patches installed. (2 & 3) Is it my system or a bug? I've got a good 40GB open. What to do?? (btw, I'm a novice at the techie stuff) Thanks!
Read up on some of Krunch's and my own posts on optimising your system. (search function, common issues and solutions stickied thread). It's not a bug. Just the game disagrees with some systems at times. If you're having problems with the air elementals though, I'd really have a look at your system specs and also what you're running in the background - 40 gb system sounds like you're referring to your harddrive and not to how powerful your system actually is (although HD speed can have a minor impact on game performance it's somewhere near number 100 in the top 10 things which make your game sluggish). Edit - oh and installing patch 3 is a BAD idea. Just a thought.
Ok here we go. I went and downloaded a bunch of the fix files and I downloaded v5.0.1. Now when I start up ToEEFE the game will intitailly stat with the little bar but after that it just shuts down with no error messages. here is a list of the mods I have downloaded and installed via the instruction. 1. Verbobonc fixes 3.rar 2.Cumulative mods 5.0.1 py00125belsorning Co8 Portrait and Voice pack now the game wont run. Have I added too many fixes?
The Verbobonc and Belsornig fixes are included in 5.0.1. Adding them separately like that (and out of order) could be the source of your problem. Check out the whole 5.0.1 thread to see what all is included (each submission is marked included if it is). Also, make sure you installed 5.0.1 correctly. You must have 5.0.0 installed, and it must be the last module started before you install 5.0.1.
also along a similar line of thought...in the installation section that zebedee created, the instructions are very helpful, but what are .pyc files, when should i delete them (before AND after?) and what exactly does deleting them do? ty!
you delete them either before or after, it doesn't matter, but I'm not sure what it does [shrugs] Rickenbacker, that is definately your system, it could be your memory, check to see if you have any programs running that you can close down
It might not be his system. There are a lot of things that can cause it to shut down during that load time, most of them game file related. .pyc files are the compiled versions of the .py files. If you don't delete them, changes made in the .py files may not take effect. The game recompiles them as needed.
You might want to defragment your hard drive(s) to make things run a bit faster. Depending on what you use your computer for 40 gb might be plenty of space, or almost running out of space. You could start the game up, then pause it once you've loaded a game an go back into windows and open the task manager (ctr+alt+del) and look at the memory and look at the preferences tab. If the memory is peaking you can check if you're excessively using the pagefile (slower) or are in need of more memory.
