I just bought the game (real cheap)and installed the CO8 including the Max HP mod pack. Not using front end. Critters like the giant frogs seem to be getting max hp (30hp) for a 3 HD monster and 60hp for a giant clayfist, a 6HD monster. Is this caused by the mod? Can I turn it off? I played the first battle with a LG party before using the mod and I'm pretty sure the bandits have less than the 10 HP they have now. **** Found the reason, the HP mod config doesn't work with just a reinstall, I have to uninstall and reinstall. But this only works without the CO8 patch. Even when I uninstall the HP mod and reinstall the game and CO8, the NPCs still have maximum hp. So does the CO8 max enemy hp? Is there a way to turn it off?
i believe the option to max NPC hp in the frontend will max ALL npcs...which includes monsters. i could be wrong though, but that's what i think it is.
I managed to install and run the frontend. Max HP for HD and Class level for NPC is off. Those caraven bandits for LG party still get full 10 hp but giant frogs and npcs in the LN starting mission have random hp now. Could it be that the 1st level for certain npcs give full hp? The HP for children in the town appears to be random though. Oh well I guess its alright now. As long as enemies don't get maxed hp, my party doesn't need to max theirs either. Was a major pain going through the first quest with monsters at their maxed HP, I gave up at the boss room where every guard have 25 hp.
More specifically, anyone with a PC class level gets max HP at 1st level. Characters with NPC classes or monster Hit Dice get random HP for all levels.
Sorry, wasn't trying to correct you. I was just trying to forstall the inevitable "Then how come character X doesn't have max hp?" questions.
I always play with the max HP per level for NPCs, makes it more fun, but max HP from HD is kinda scarey 20d8+200 is a total hp I hope isn't going to be maxed.
