Hi everyone. after the last thread i created asking if anyone was interested in a higher level mod, i figured, what the hell, i may as well try and learn how to do one. put my money where my mouth is. that being said, is there anyone in the New York City/Connecticut/New Jersey/Massachussetts USA area who wants to meet up and try and figure out (or teach me/us the basics of) how to make a mod? we can probably meet at a coffee shop or something. i'll drive wherever to meet up, bring my laptop to work on, and pay for unlimited java infusions. if we do get something going and just newbies are available, perhaps some of the experts could be online for a chat if dumb-ass questions arise from the dumbass newbies? if it works out like i hope, maybe we can make these get-togethers a regular thing, collaborative modding as a social event. anyone up for it? joe
I also am in Britain, so will be unable to attend. What I want to say is that it's not that hard to learn to mod. I knew nothing about modding ToEE when I joined the site - now I know enough to do many things with mods, and I'm really just restricted by my free time which is very limited. Respect to you for you doing the same and putting "your money where your mouth is" - that's the spririt! I hope you can get someone to help you learn, but if you don't then put the time and effort in to read this site, experiment, read this site a bit more... and you should be able to get to the point where you can make your own mods. Prior programming experience will make it quicker and easier, but anyone can do it if they're prepared to put the time and effort in. The information here is a bit disorganised (where's the glamor in that kind of work eh?) but searching and reading back in history will work. You'll learn to curse the 60s limit between searches...
And you can always visit the IRC Channel. I'm there quite often, and I love to help new modders. Read the tutorial first though. It covers the basics. I would meet with you, but I'm on the other side of the US, and I don't think you want to drive that far.
Holy F'ing S, what are the odds? You say you live in New Haven, huh? I dunno. It might take me all of five minutes to meet you somewhere. That's kinda far. Let's see... driving from New Haven to New Haven... where's my calculator. Well, on the good side, I don't live far at all. On the bad side, I'm not really into modding. So where does that leave us? I dunno. Thought I'd comment though on the fact that you live down the street from me.
wow. whoudda thunk? actually i live in cheshire, 10 minutes away, but hell thats not far at all. well, thats 2 of us. anyone else around? joe
It sounds like an opportunity for you guys to start a group to have a D&D pNp campaign local to your area.
