    Hello Everyone,

    I have been lurking around these parts for some time and have greatly enjoyed all of the enhancments you guys have made to TOEE. I will be starting my first Co8 5.0 run through tonight and I am looking forward to it.

    I have been a big fan of D&D crpgs for a long time now, beggining with the Baldur's Gate series. I was wondering how possible it would be to bring something like the Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale, or Planescape into the TOEE engine?

    TOEE's implentation of the 3.5 rules and the pure turn based gameplay are extremely enjoyable to me. I would love to be able to experience the story and characters of the Infinity Engine games using the game mechanics and 3.5 rules of TOEE.

    I realize that a project like this is not something one would undertake lightly but, I am curious, given time and talent would this even be possible?

    You may now commence to tell me how crazy I am for even suggesting something like this:crazy:

    Anyway, thanks once again for your great work.

    I'm not an expert, but I have to doubt it very, very much.

    The BG Tutu project lets you play BG1 in the BG2 engine -- those engines were close enough. Last I knew the WeiDU guy gave up on trying to convert BG2 so you could play in in the IWD2 engine, and if those two were too far away to do it, I'd say ToEE is miles away. Without any real technical understanding of the issues, I know at least the ToEE and IE are quite different engines, rendering, etc.

    I think attempts have been made with Planescape as well -- again, based on the IE, but pretty different.

    Sounds like you'd enjoy BG Tutu if you haven't checked it out, though.

    It would be a major project, but I dare say most of the maps could be ripped straight from any of those isometric view games, getting the scale right wouldn't be too hard, we can do most of the other stuff with the tool we have already, but adding new models and animations is one thing we can't do...

    And besides, KotB beckons.

    Keep on the Borderlands sounds pretty cool. So if I understand you correctly, Allyx, you guys have the ability to create and add in new environments (which are 2D) but, do not have the ablility to add in new 3d character models and animations? Is this something that would be remedied by the release of the officail tools? I assume all you would need is an exporter from Maya or Max?

    Another thing that I think would make moving the BG series into TOEE difficult is that the characters would have to be able to progress to at least level 20 (if you were going to go from BG1 to ToB). Do you guys have the ability to add the new spells and abilities that would be required for this? My guess is no, since new spells almost assuredly require new spell effects which would mean animations.

    Sorry for all the questions, I just find this stuff very interesting.

    @Zenslinger

    I have indeed played BGTutu, that is what got me thinking about moving BG into the TOEE engine.

    From what I've read up on spell effects are quite different from other animations, and there's limited control over partical effects. So spells are "okay".

    I'm tempted to put some study into the skm format... the wireframes seem to be understood, but the main problem is animation? So I'm guessing the wild boar that was added is somehow based off an existing mesh? I dont recognize it...
