    Greetings,

I have just started playing this game after finding it in a bargain bin. I'm enjoying it so far, it is hard and very true to the 3.5 PnP rules. And all the wonderful work that the mod community has done here has made my experience much more fun.

However, one aggravation I keep running into is when characters get knocked prone, they automatically try to stand up on their next turn. Which kind of sucks when they are surrounded by a bunch of mobs, who all get AoOs on that character.

Is there any way to disable this?

Thanks! And thanks for all the great work y'all have done making this game (more) playable.

Does skipping their turn work? (Press space IIRC).

Nope, they stand up automatically at the beginning of the turn. :(

In which case, I doubt there is anything which can be done. Some monsters will still beat on your characters when they are on the ground - at least they have a chance of survival if they try to stand up...

I'll just have to use the level 0 cleric spell to keep them from dying, rather than CLW.

    THanks for the response. :D

Just be aware that some monsters will attack a character until s/he dies whether they are standing or lying down. Healing 1hp to keep them prone may just guarantee their death.

Space moves the action on to whoever gets to go next. Another thing to try is dragging the portrait of the prone pc to a place in the cue behind someone else (or even everyone else) in your party; maybe they can take an action to better aid the fallen pc; like casting an area effect spell - or cleaving a few of them out of action. It's all going to depend on what the particular situation your party finds themselves in. Sleep might work well enough, or grease could be the thing...make everyone around your guy equally prone. Whatever works best.

The problem is in order to hit space or dag the portrait it has to first be that characters turn. They automatically try to stand up at the begining of that turn so I doubt there is anything you can do about it other than focus the rest of your party on helping them when they each get a chance.

After all wouldn't that be their focus if they saw a companion fall in battle? (At least most of the time I hope.):shrugno:

The auto-stand thing is annoying. Yes, the baddies will likely to continue to beat on the character even if he stays down, but at least they have to wait until their turn, giving the rest of the party a chance to come to their rescue. With the auto-stand, the baddies all get immediate AOOs and frequently kill the character as he tries to stand back up. So you're stuck with a choice of hoping the AI doesn't attack disabled characters and just hit them with a cure minor to prevent them from bleeding to death or else heal them and hope they can survive the flurry of AOOs that are going to happen when they get back up.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to fix it, because we'd have to somehow both disable the auto-stand and also add a "stand up" option to the radial menu.

One thing to try is to have a different character in your party move between the prone character and the monster closest to the prone character. It is possible for the monster to change its target and for the monster to use any extra swings it has on other characters.

The auto-stand "Feature" makes mobs that a) target casters, and b) have improved trip extremely nasty.

First time completely through the game, I nearly lost my sorceror about six times to a gnoll that would run past the rest of my party, trip him, then AoO him as he stood.

Nasty stuff. Just be glad the game engine doesn't let you combine improved trip attacks with whirlwind and a spiked chain.

Also, don't be afraid to spend some gold coins on better gear. Better AC translates to taking fewer hits meaning less damage and going prone less often.
