does this also mean that someone could create a range of leveled up characters that could be imorted into the game so you could start with a few 8 level characters that you downloaded
Yes, that's possible. However, on player's side I see this as more of cheating than anything else... Although it may be good for modders' testing purposes as well (testing new modules and stuff like that). - Agetian
well I was thinking along the lines of the pregenerated PCs and the idea that you might want to start one module without doing the others
@ Cujo: Yup, pregenerated PCs are a good idea. Those can be done later for QotS. @ Everyone: rufnredde did some tests and it seems like the dead characters after transferring to another modules come back to life (and may also cause some strange game behavior, but this will be sorted out). It's impossible (game engine limitation) to transfer a dead character as dead. Anyway, since I'll be also making the characters fully heal upon transferring, I don't see why resurrection of dead characters couldn't have been made by the party. Looks like we'll have to cope with this limitation either way. - Agetian
If you can not transfer the gear can you change the shop map to add additional gold so the Pcs can re-buy any gear that may have been lost and they wished to keep. Maybe have the possible gear found from the previous adventure to be listed on the shop map. Starting gold could be X amount times the level. should cop with rule breaking purchases but give the players some magic gear for the second part of the campaign. Macer
That's still a long way off from today, so the exact way of transferring the inventory over will be decided later. Anyway, I believe it's possible to transfer the inventory be means of scripting, so I'm not saying that such a transfer is entirely impossible - I'm just saying that it's not possible to do it directly. - Agetian
So far there have been no new bug reports from the internal testers of the character transfer tool, so the tool can pretty much be considered ready for wider testing. If someone wants to try out the new tool, please PM me with your e-mail information, and once I have enough testers I'll e-mail the tool to everyone who volunteered. In order to be eligible to test the Character Transfer Tool you must: 1. Be a member of the Circle of Eight team (that's different from being merely registered on the boards). 2. Explicitly agree NOT to redistribute test versions of the character transfer tool to anyone, for any reason and under any circumstances. 3. Be ready to actively test the tool and provide feedback. If you sign up to test and fail to provide any constructive feedback you will automatically be excluded from the list of testers for the next versions of this tool. If you disagree with any of the above-mentioned points or if you are not a member of the Co8 team, please do not consider PMing me because it will be pointless (your offer will be rejected without any notification). - Agetian
I sent out the tool to people who were interested in testing it. Anything to report so far, guys? If you've got something, positive or negative, please respond in this thread. Thanks in advance. - Agetian
IMPORTANT: OK, the reports that are coming from the testers are mostly positive, and unless something real bad pops up within the next few days, I think the Character Transfer Tool can pretty much be considered ready. Now, I have a very important question for everyone who cares about such a tool: do we need a public release of this tool before KotB is actually out, and if yes, how could it be useful without having a sequence of at least two modules created? As I told you all before, there will be no public release of the tool unless I see it'll be useful to people in some way. Right now I don't see how it may be useful to wide public besides being used as a tool of cheating. If someone has another opinion, please share it with me. If we come to a conclusion that the tool may be necessary for wide public today (without KotB/QotS), I will make a public release. Otherwise it'll only be released privately to modders in order to be used as a tool of testing, and then it'll be publicly released after KotB is out and QotS is announced and worked on (possibly when the QotS starter pack is available) - that's a long time from today, but that's how it's going to work. I hope to hear your opinions here, guys. Thanks in advance. - Agetian
I think your plan is fine. No sense in putting it out there until it is actually going to be of benefit within a series of modules.
:imwithstu there's no need to make a public release of this tool without there being a module to export characters to. Sounds like you guys are working all kinds of miracles without me, I'm very impressed.
Not only do I not think we need it just now, I would love to make it one way when the time comes - you can transfer PCs from KotB to ToEE, but NOT vice versa. I can just imagine the number of idiots who will finish ToEE with a lvl 15 party then want to use it to play KotB, and the rubbish they will post: "these kobolds aren't a challenge!" "i used Suggestion on the Castellan and now the quests don't work" "I summoned a Balor in the church to see what would happen and he ate the Curate, now I have a bad reputation" "I transferred with 20000 platinum and a masterwork longsword, crafted a +3 chaotic Frostbrand at the caravan screen lolz then murdered the Gate Guards, the scribe and the Corporal with a single great cleave and now I can't get in, its a bug!" Grrrr :smarty: Folks like that get 2 thumbs up :doublethu
I think it would be grand to have a tool that would allow us to transfer a character from one version of TOEE to another version of TOEE. I am aware this is not what you are proposing, but I just wanted to voice my opinion and request.
