    Hi everybody, I need some help. I've got a 5 man party, all lvl 10, 2 fight, 1 rouge, 1 druid, 1 monk. I cannot beat Baloor, the Fire Elemental Guardian. I need to know if I DL the patches offered here, will there be extra content or is it just bug fixes for the content already presented? Also, is it true that weapons do not enchant any higher than +2 because of bugs? I am entirely ready to restart the game, as this is the farthest i've ever gotten...but not being able to hit anything is frustrating beyond belief.

    Also, I didn't buy feats for the enchanted weapons offered thorugh the game, as my Fighters started with axes and I built them for it. I can't figure out how to enchant weapons and so i'm stuck using the Greatsword that comes with frost and the +3 Longsword I found on the Lamia, becuase my axes wont hurt the demons:cry:

    I'm mad noob, so plz be nice!:notworthy

    The patches might not work with your original game. So you'd need to restart to be sure of no wierd issues.

    They do add additional content as well as fixes. They also allow you to go beyond level 10 (although not without some problems for some classes).

    You do need to craft weapons if you want a far easier time later on in the game.

    (1) Download and install the Atari Patch1 and Patch2 for ToEE.
    -> Atari Patch1
    -> Atari Patch2

    (2) Install Co8 4.0.0 MOD. When installing this MOD, deselect ALL of the checkbox options in the list window during the installation to have mostly just fixes be installed...there will be a few bonus and surprises that'll make you go "WooHoo! *w00t*".
    -> Co8 4.0.0 MOD

    (3) Reboot the computer.

    (4) Read this thread to learn what has been recently posted about killing the balor Fire Node Guardian.

    (5) Read this "Item Crafting in The Temple of Elemental Evil by Lord Plothos"
    -> ToEE Crafting

    For the Balor you need +3 weapons or better to hit (http://www.planetadnd.com/interactive_books/mm00280.php) and I recommend Holy damage type (tho Frost or Fire will still help), Silver arrows for your archers on their enchanted +3 Holy/Cold/Fire Bows. Also buff your accuracy via Strength items/spells for your Melee guys, Dexterity for your Range and Weapon Finesse guys, and via Bard song "Inspire Courage" OR Cleric ablity Bless or similar morale affecting spell (you can click on your attack bonus and see what stacks and what doesn't), and Divine Favor.

    As for the magic users you need them as high level possible to beat spell resistence (caster level + d20 roll vs spell resistence number), spell penetration and greater spell penetration help alot. Boosting their Int, Wis, Cha appropriately will not help get thro spell resistence but will give their spell more chance of success if it gets thro

    [EDIT](the Balor has STR 24, CON 24, DEX 30, INT is 19-20 or more). Magic missiles (and acid) are very effective from a high level, spell penetrating, spell caster. Also most important of all is to debuff his AC with Ray of Clumsiness, making him real easy to hit, other spells that hold, debuff or cause flat-footedness/deny DEX (such as attacking from invisiblity) may help. In fact Bestow Curse (if gets actually hits) can be made to make him take a penalty on all of all his rolls and checks including AC and resisting spells, making Dismissal (one shot kill) much easier.

    Last crucial thing would be protection from his or his summons Fear, Confusion and Charm. Protection From Evil (Magic Circle against Evil may not help your allies in this regard) will do such but put it on last or your other morale affecting stuff will not take effect. Put lots of buffs on and he and his summons may spend a fair deal of time Dispel Magicking you so they can affect your minds, buying you time to kill him. (Barkskin, Stoneskin all these help against taking blows too).

    (If you really can't face him now then flee to another temple which are easier or Teleport out and get what you need, maybe levelup Spugnoir and have him craft?)

    Actually, you need holy or cold weapons. (It should be holy cold iron weapons per the rules, but what can you do?) Plusses don't matter in 3.5, barring creatures that need epic weapons (+6 or better) to punch through their DR. The doing no damage at all without the appropriate weapon went away in 3.0 with the DR system. In 3.5, the DR system got changed again, with magical plusses going away as a requirement and traits like magic, holy, silver, etc becoming important instead.

    Silver weapons won't give you any bonuses against demons (silver works on lycanthropes and devils) and will actually make things more difficult as silver weapons do 1 point less of damage.

    Wow, the rules have changed around alot. But anyway, these guys are the experts so hear what they say about the weapons.

    Question.. so plusses don't matter in TOEE version of AD&D? I mean in the sense that you could hit and damage a Balor with a +1 Holy weapon?

    That's right. In v. 3.5 DR is now stated as X/magic(or X/slashing etc...), with X being the amount of damage that is subtracted from your damge roll. The actual amount of "plus" your magic weapon has doesn't matter, as long as it's magical.

    EDIT: Also, the value after the "/" is the condition needed to bypass the DR. Just in case you didn't catch that.

    No, take the item crafting feats...

    Brew Potions (creates potions - best used by clerics and druids)
    Scribe Scroll (Wizards get this at first level, but works for druids and clerics too)
    Craft Wonderous Item (not recomended for bards or sorcerers)
    Craft Magic Arms And Armor (not recomended for bards or sorcerers)
    Craft Wand (not recomended for bards or sorcerers)
    Craft Rod (best suited to clerics and druids, but wizards can also craft some of these)
    Carft Staff (some of these require REALLY high level dual classed crafters)
    Craft Ring (best suited to clerics and druids, but wizards can also craft some of these)

    These options can be accessed by the radial menu.

    So when you craft these items it costs XP, right? Does it only take the crafters XP, or can you use others' XP?

    Yeah XP is deducted from the PC (or NPC) that is doing the crafting, You must have enough "spare" XP to craft the item as well, by "spare" XP I mean enough XP above your current level's minimum XP requirement, to cover the XP cost of crafting the item.

    EG Spugnoir (at 3rd level, with craft wondrous item) crafting an item that will cost him 100 XP to craft, he will need to have at least 3100 XP in order to craft it. If he only had 3099 XP you'd have to wait until you've gained 1 more XP to be able to craft it.
