Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread Well they are. Those things are hideous! Oops about the space, though. (Sorry, you try writing descriptions for dozens of magical items and not get a little punchy.) ETA: Anyone else having a problem with the time-based rewards? It's been over 60 days since I cured Amii and the woodcutter is still telling me "Maybe tomorrow." It's been well over 30 days since I rescued Thromell and the elven nobles and despite wandering between the Temple and Homlett I haven't encounted the reward parties. Also, does anyone think the times should be reduced? All the 30-day+ limit does is encourage people to sit in the Welcome Wench for 30 days straight because otherwise the chance of the reward coming before you finish the game is pretty slim.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread I feel kind of stupid asking this, but i'm having trouble getting the portraits to work on the beta. I did read the initial post and follow-ups concerning this but I still seem to be missing something. I previously had 4.0.1 installed and everything worked perfectly. I deactivated the module as per instructions, installed the newer module and cleanly reinstalled the portrait/voice pack to the new directory, but I get a hang during the portrait selection screen - or if I do get to it, I get black boxes with arrows and other portraits are zoomed out. I don't have the options to load male1/2, female1/2 as I did with the older module. I'm using the front end loader. Did I miss something? Maybe I just had trouble interpreting the instructions in the readme/posts, but could someone spell out the steps necessary as if I was a child?
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread My testing has shown that time_events in the game do not take into account time spent resting or passing time. They do take into account time spent traveling. This means that even if you rest for one year in the Welcome Wench, it does not reduce the time you have to wait for a reward. Spending 30 days traveling around on the world map, however, does count towards the time you have to wait for a reward. I have actually had a whole game go by and never had the Woodcutter hear from his relative. @ShadowDeth: Did you load the 5.0.0 module before you installed the P&V Packs? By load I mean select the 5.0.0 mod in Front End and start the game, then quit as soon as you have the option to.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread I don't think I did. The best I can remember is, I deactivated the old module, installed the new one and activated it, and then did the portrait stuff. So I need to physically start the game, and quit at the title screen before trying to apply the portrait pack - then that will give me the option to load the male/female files? I'll get right to it.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread Huh. In the past I've had the reward encounters shortly after resting for 30 or 60 days. Might have been a coincidence, though.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread Cerulean the Blue - Everything worked perfectly now. Sorry for the lazy question.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread Yes. And after reading Blue's reply, I wonder if this fix should include a way to make it count all time passing. Sometime between a fortnight & a month is plenty of time to await a reward.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread I took a quick look at the code, and both Thrommel's and Tillahi's rewards are set for 14 days. The Woodcutter hearing back from his relative is set for 3.17 days (rounded to two decimal places - don't ask me why Liv chose the number she did). Allowing time spent resting or passing time to count would be a .dll hack.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread I have done the updates and the game loads, however when I right click on the players portrait to view items... it crashes... any ideas...
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread Is the player in question using a custom portrait, or one of the ones from 5.0.0? Cuchulainn.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread Bug: the Circlet of Persuasion is described wrongly as giving +2 to Charisma based skills. Actually, it gives you +3 (the correct amount per the DM's guide). Bug: when you kill the Knights that reward you for rescuing Prince Thrommel, you can find "Necklace of Prayer Beads (Karma)" on one of their corpses. I have no idea what book this item comes from (if any), but, IIRC, the description claims to give you +4 caster level on divine spells for 10 minutes. However, you will find that the item is completely unusable (can't be used from radial menu when worn), can't be used as a Use Item, and possessing it seems to have no effect on caster level (Inflict Critical Wounds when cast at L11 still did +11, not +15). I'm not sure where I found them (maybe from Falrinth or Senshock?) but I found a Potion of Cure Critical Wounds (4th level or higher spell) and a Wand of Chain Lighting (6th level, I believe). IMHO these items are impossible to craft, and shouldn't exist..
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread Another day, another fix. This one unfortunately requires a new game to be started. I included a short readme expaining why this is the case, and also involves deleting a few folders from the map folder BEFORE adding the fix... What it does... Fixes the KOS flags for Verbobonc guards and Scarlet Brotherhood troops should thier respective leaders be slain. I had to completely remove Wilfrick, and I gave him a day/night transfer things (more like Lerrick and Prince Zook) Fixed Lerrick's pityful HP (he should have a lot more as an 8th level monk), beefed up Wilfrick considerably, he should have been a 10th level fighter all along anyway, and fixed the undentified description of his weapon (Blue knows what I'm on about, but for the life of me I can't think why the weapon's unidentified name was Ronald). [EDIT by Cerulean the Blue] This is included in the Cumulative Fixes. Read the README.
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread The Necklace of Prayer Beads is from the 1st Edition Dungeon Master's Guide; there should be no limit to duration as long as the Necklace is worn. Can it be fixed? What an enhancement that would be. And before anybody naysays it, this module was always a first edition work modified for 3.5. Leave some of the flavor in it, for chrissakes! As for the next thing, just 'cause pc's have trouble (or are incapable of) making something is no reason to exclude it from the game. They can't craft or destroy the Orb of Golden Death by themselves, either....should it be outlawed as well?
Re: Co8 5.0.0 beta 1 thread > Leave some of the flavor in it, for chrissakes! I agree, if the Necklace can be made to work as expected and it is balanced for 3.5 rules (i.e. a fair market value) then that's the best outcome. As it stands, it's worth tens of thousands of GP, and it doesn't work, so I just sold it off >just 'cause pc's have trouble (or are incapable of) making something is no reason to exclude it from the game. They can't craft or destroy the Orb of Golden Death by themselves, either....should it be outlawed as well? In 3.5, the normal limit for Potions is 3rd level spells, and for wands it's 4th level. The Orb of Golden Death seems like an ancient artifact - probably crafted by a god or epic character (PC's can't normally craft artifacts per the rules). It's also an integral item in the game. The potion and the wand just seem like a bug, however. P.S. maybe they could have been crafted by epic level characters?
