Hi anybody here ever play chainmail. it came out before basic d&d. I used to hang out at the judges guild. thats where citystate of the invincible overlord was created. thats where i got my introduction to role playing. dose anybody know who bob bledsaw is.
no...never heard anyone mention it here...sorry...maybe someone knows about it and just never mentioned it
I've got a copy of chainmail in my collection.( and most of the basic D&D booklets too ) I never actually played it though. I got into D&D about the time the original Dungeon Master's Guide was released. I used Citystate of the Invincible Overlord and Citystate of the World Emperor, as well as some other Judges Guild modules in the old Greyhawk campaigne I ran back in 1980-85.
The Judges Guild stuff gets an occasional mention here - Escape from Astigar's Lair was one of my first modules. Fabulous exercise in role-playing.
Speaking of old games - for pure entertainment purposes, I have a copy of the original AD&D Unearthed Adventures computer game and also have a copy of the Temple of Elemental Evil module that someone made from scratch for Unearthed Adventures where ToEE is based on Forgotten Realms, instead of the World of Greyhawk. PS: AD&D UA is such an old computer game, it has to be installed from three floppy disks [and can be played in Windows, but plays better in DOS].
There are a couple of people here who've mentioned Chainmail, but in in passing. I would have thought they'da spoken up by now.
Hi -- I found this post while looking up something else. I wanted to say thank you for the kind words about Astigar. Allen and I sold it to the Judges Guild on our honeymoon, and the module will always have a warm spot in our hearts. (Actually, Allen found it hard to believe that anyone still remembered it, let alone warmly!) I must say that no one could have picked a more....interesting...choice for the color of the cover (bright magenta), which really...er...sets off the artwork by Kevin Simbieda. (I really must go digging for the sequel to Astigar (three-player game IIRC including the bard rescued in the first module). We ran it at Fallcon [1980] on our first wedding anniversary... PS to steveo926 -- yes, we certainly do remember Bob Bledsaw. I'm sure he slept on the floor of our living room more than once while up in Michigan for the MDG conventions.
