Hello all -- this is my first post here. I just recently reloaded this game on my new system and started playing it again (it had been over a year). It's good to see that you all are still working to improve the game. I had started a new party and had just recently done the Smigmal battle and she had escaped -- this was my most recent save. So, when I saw this post, I thought 'cool! -- perfect timing for this fix'. But after downloading and copying the files to my TOEE folder, it doesn't seem to work for me. I've done the invisible Smigmal battle a number of times over and let her live at least 5 or 6 rounds and she never becomes visible. I also tried copying the files to not only the 'data' folder, but also 'data.ToEE' or whatever it is called -- and this didn't appear to make a difference (hopefully didn't messa anything up either). I decided to go back to the save where I have killed Falrinth but haven't faced Smigmal yet and see if I needed to start there instead of the post-Smigaml flees save, but I managed to trip her and kill her before she gave her little sppech and fleed. So, now I have her stuff and and not as concerned, but may try again later just to see what happens. Just curious if you know if this behavior is as expected -- and I need to have the fix in before I start a game or before I face Smigmal for the first time. BTW, I am running with the Atrari 2 / Co8 v4 patch on WinXP. Thanks.
the fix must be used before smigmal is fought the first time. If you fought her and she disappeared using the old code, this fix won't have any effect, but it will work for you next time. In the unfixed file, they made her go away using a different code, (runnoff) when they should have set OF_OFF (see the notes above in post #7). There's no way back forom a runoff command.
Well F .. .. . .. ck, uumm theres no way around this if you have already made her run off ? what would happen if i just dont go in that room no more ?? does she have anything i need ? blah i dont want to start over (((( PS. this the best computer RPG i have seen to date......! even with all the bugs. Atari should be slapped for not making 2.
fyi - There's at least one workaround for the Smigmal bug if she's turned invisible. Right-click a character's radial menu, select the "single attack" option and then click on Smigmal's portrait in the initiative line-up above. That should target her.
Other than what I posted in the previous post, just cast Deep Slumber on that evil witchy woman. If successful before she goes invisible, you just walk up to her and give her a complimentary Coupe De Grace, collect your spoils and enjoy the armor and whatnot. Then, proceed on to the fella next door. [EDIT] Silent Death!..a not nearly used enough tactic.
yeah i tried the first suggestion but she is very hard to hit, not sure cus im lvl5 or what but she takes forever to kill. As to the second suggestion she is invis when i come into the room, i never see her. Also you cant target her with spells via the initiative line-up, dosnt work. Im very new to this game, so if there are any other tricks i would be grateful for them. I already killed the wizard next door, i had Smigmal to about 10ish hit points when she did her girl in distress bit and disappeared. Didnt even know she was still in that room except that one of my characters ran into the room cus i clicked them to move to close to that wall. Does she just have good loot or does she have anything i NEED to finish the scenario? I just figure ill level up a few more lvls then go try her again. Thanks/in advance .
It's actually quite simple, not complicated at all. Someone in the party opens the door; no one enters the room and no one casts any attack spells or any other offensive anything. With the door open, the wizard in the party casts Deep Slumber on her, the evil witchy woman who is in the room. !!! NO ONE STARTS COMBAT YET If successful, it's Coupe De Grace time. If it's not successful, the fighter types run in the room and engage close quarters combat. Do NOT be a total dope and surround her; that would be stupid. You have to form somewhat of a semi-circular line in front of her when the fighter-types engage her. And, guess what - the wizard stays OUTSIDE of the room, does not enter the room and casts Deep Slumber each round until she either falls asleep or turns invisible. If your wizard has any real value whatsoever to the party, your wizard should be able to successfully cast Deep Slumber on her in at least one of the three attempts to cast Deep Slumber on the evil witchy woman. * If you already wasted the opportunity - well, there's a reason why people say the phrase "You blew it." as a general comment to people failing to do stuff. [EDIT] now that I am in more of a jolly mood - In all seriousness, there are no tricks other than my first suggestion in post # 20 in this thread. If that does not work for you, you will need to use a previous save and go back to her again from before your first encounter with her, the evil witchy woman.
Smigmal Fixed? More like stomped! I was never able to get the smigmal fix patch into the directory. Luck must have been exceptionally kind to me today. I took on the tower full of brigands and stomped on them and then found my way down into the tunnel beneath that tower. I've had my problems with Smigmal in the past but this time around I don't know what happened. After a first turn where only my elf hit smigmal I was sure the fight was going to go normally (her getting to turn invisible). Second turn my mage hits smigmal with 3 magic missiles, my archer hits with one of two arrows and my elf scores two criticals in a row. Smigmal died on the second critical. My elf now wears the blue elven chainmail the assassin once wore. I count it all up to exceptional luck at this point since I was fully ready to try krunch's trick of targeting a single attack through the radial menu and pointing to the initiative bar. I thought I would share since it is a rather momentous occasion for me. Sorry to slide off topic but I did not want to litter the board with another topic.
It is possible (and always has been) to beat her in 3 rounds, but should you fail to do that, and she disapears, with this fix she will be visable when she returns (this fix is in the 4.0.1 patch and can be found in Gaear's Renegade mods thread, and will become standard when 4.1.0 is released.)
