. . . or at least 'tdecker' does. Found this post over at Atari in that big old thread where they're slowly debating whether anyone's responsible for ToEE's woes. Does anyone recognize the name? Interesting revelations here, regardless.
I sent him a PM, directing him here... so far nothing has come back from him, but we live in hope. I'm fairly sure this guy could help us out with a few things we're still struggling to get to grips with (well hoping that is the case, assuming he is inclined to do so).
If anyone from Troika IS listening,... ...I'd like to knowsomething about the .skm format. I realize that there may be legal issues with it that cause it to be impossible to release information regarding dissecting the file. However, if at all possible, simply revealing information regarding as to whether or not it's an exclusive proprietary format designed by Troika, or if it's some type of extension ascribed to the file by a third party plugin for a mainstream modeling/animation program. If disclosing all information can't be done, the little bit I just mentioned would still help alot. Dilligence and searching would do the rest. Thanks.
It seems they used Maya for the 3D stuff, but beyond that I don't know (never having used Maya, or any other 3D art package before). There is a more detailed thread in the models and animations forum if it means anything to you.
Re: Thanks Allyx,... ToEE4.dat is installed by the official patch. The "duplicate" file you found is actually an override file, i.e. it takes precedence over the one in ToEE3.dat. And if you have the Co8 4.0.0 mod pack installed, yet another version of item_creation.mes is used (in data\rules). Anyway, it would be much preferable to discuss this in the General Modification forum, since it doesn't have all that much to do with the topic of this thread.
