Has anyone ever noticed Jenelda?

    What he said.

Certainly flagging that flag will not magically open up new plots, it doesn't work that way. ONF_JILTED is recognised by temple.dll (in theory) but never used in the game.

Thanks guys. I'll try it out as soon as I've immersed myself in the dialog tutorials. I understand what you are saying, ShiningTed. I don't see any new dialog options that could possibly arise from the flag. I was talking about writing new ones, that would only trigger if you jilt your significant other. Also, the console can't be used to successfully change global flags, can it? Has anyone tried?

    I ask because, I still haven't finished playing the damned game yet. Thanks to all the cool stuff you guys put out, it's more fun trying to figure out how the game works, than to just play the damn thing. I've done some pretty unpalatable things in my game, and have used the console to remove the resulting reputations, but I notices that there are some things that also put up a global flag. Whenever I use the console to correct the flags, using the command;

    game.global_flags[#] = 0

I get the response, "0", regardless of what numerical value I put in. I'm guessing that this either means the console is incapable of changing the flag, or my code is wrong. I ask because, back when I used to create things for Baldur's Gate, so long ago, I noticed that there were some functions that could only be accessed by the game engine via the game's scripts, they were disabled as far as console commands and structs were concerned. For all intents and purposes, people assumed that these functions were inert.

I wanna get to hacking, but I just wanna finish the damn game too. You guys did TOO good a job.

The lesbo situation was always there, I just meant that Liv expanded on it by creating this particular dialogue and possibility, iirc. (The one where you can arrange for exclusivity with Jenelda and subsequently enjoy unlimited lesbo encounters every time you come back to Nulb from a mission . . . complete with fades to black.) I think it was mentioned in her readme that she worked on fleshing out the brothel. But then so did Ted, after a fashion. ;)

wait.. so the sheep were NOT there at first and entirely your creation?
haha.. KICKASS, they were surely funny...

altough... they had sheep in arcanum.... they had LOTS of whores in arcanum... :p

and please people... this is not the place to argue about homosexuality... nothing will come of this discussion but anger and resentment towards fellow board members. (I am not refering to discussing jenalda and you know it... I am referring to the discussion of homosexuality in of itself)

Yes, Kalshane, I do know. Of course she could. Maybe she felt like they needed her, and only she...using her deity given talents...was the only one who could help them in their unfortunate situation.

While being the only reason I suggested, I did not suggest that it was the only reason, merely one possibility. Everyone is free to write their own story, or make their own interpretation, or draw their own conclusion. But just because I don't go into that much detail with every friggin' post I make doesn't mean that I'm an insensitive prick. It seems like people are trying to find things wrong with my commentary on the game instead of thinking up something to say about it for themselves. I'm suggesting possible back-stories for these fantasy characters, not commenting on the morality of homosexuality. That is an even worse debate than alignment, and has no place on this forum.

*doffs kid gloves; dons shit-kicker boots.

Anyone else...? Blue? Seriously, you guys need to stop nit picking & focus on this as a game. Don't start nothin' there won't be nothin'.

I wasn't trying to start a fight or make a moral statement. I was just objecting to the "man-hating lesbian" cliche.

    nitpicking

    ****************************************

    a. intransitive verb form: nit·picked, nit·pick·ing, nit·picks
    b. noun form: nit·picker

Definition: To be concerned with or find fault with insignificant details.

    Synonyms: quibble

    ****************************************

    [edit] PS: my 2 cents..

What's the difference between the street terms American whore and French whore? The term American whore is where "man-hating lesbian" is 'typical' or common. Whereas, the term French whore is where "man-hating lesbian" is 'atypical' or uncommon. I guess that is the nature of American culture compared to European culture. (Lesbianism involves hard core carpet munching.)

And in your haste to cry foul about this perceived slight against lesbians, you overlooked the fact that I was simply giving one possible explanation for the character's background. Do you deny that this is one possibility in her history? I hope not; is it the only explanation for her background? Of course not. But if you think there's a better way to tell her story, then tell it without jumping to conclusions about how you think I think of real people.

I'm wondering where you're getting the impression I was attacking you. Nowhere in that post, nor anywhere in this thread, or on this forum have I ever even implied that "Lord Spike is an insensative cad".

I can understand if I had said something like "How dare you say that?" and then launched into a tirade. I did not. I made a fairly gentle comment in response to the suggestion of a negative stereotype on your part. I'm not the one trying to turn it into a major issue.

From statements like this. I made no such suggestion; I merely offered one possible explanation to her background; other people jumped right on your little band wagon, and it went to shit from there. What have I done aside from defending myself? If you aren't making a big deal of it, then why moan about it in the first place? I think you are full of your self-righteous self.

    Please, guys,...

...I'd rather not see the people who saved my game from becoming a drink coaster arguing over anything. Truth be told, (and this is sure to raise a few eyebrows), my final ambition was to script Jenelda to be "convertable". In other words, no longer a lesbian, back to heterosexual. I intend this to require a Lawful Good party, a male paladin character, and a minimum charisma of 16. I plan to set global flags throughout the game that would make this feasible or impossible based on the demeanor of a person's responses towards innocent npc's. "Get lost, kid" to Kent would flag a PC as an @$$hole, and never sway Jenelda.

Certain to raise a few eyebrows, but then again, in my own life, I did it twice. And I'm not tooting my own horn, it's just the way it is. Some so-called "lesbians" just become that way because of mistreatment by men, it is possible to romantically endear yourself towards them. And, while I've done that, I've also encountered some lesbians who are truly only attracted to the same sex. I've befriended some. They would argue that the women aforementioned were never truly lesbians from the start. For the most part, not always though, I tend to agree. Society and pop culture generally are more accepting towards lesbianism, and males tend to be pretty vocal about their fantasies towards it. That may be why there are more than a few women out there "faking" it.

And then, I've encounterred the "man-hating" stereotype. Ones who've expressed downright beligerrence towards me when I'm "alpha-maled" out. Jealousy, competition, something to prove, or simply bored of breathing, I don't know what the reason, but while I've never struck a woman in my life, I could find myself completely reconciling with myself if I put one in the hospital? Why? The actually, physically, challenged me. Experience reveals all types, and exceptions to the norm are not exclusive to just one sex either.

Seen 'em all, and I am probably even missing a few examples. Just because only one particular scenario was addressed, it doesn't necessarily mean someone's stereotyping, may just mean other scenarios were overlooked, or may mean that someone has only had experience with one given situation and not another. We all have different environments, and different lengths of time and experiences to our individual credits.

Anyhow, I sure as HELL did not start this thread so that I could provoke an argument and watch the people who did so much for me and my game bicker. So I'm giving you guys someone else to hate on. Heheh, you can hate on me, I did the impossible, had "every man's fantasy",...TWICE. Eat your hearts out.
