After installing patch 3 the game doesnt even load, if i use the no cd exe it plays the mov logos then kicks to desktop before loading teh game engine loading screen. Does patch 3 only fix the no loot but, I do have the temple dll from teh co8 with patch 2, so is patch 3 not even necessary? Also my game wont run unless i change the toee.exe to a differentt name like, toee1.exe then the game will load. I am also crashing due to the magic missle bug, i get a memory referrence error when casting 6 magic missles.
If you have installed patch 3 over co8 then bad things happen. That's why you'll not see anything about it mentioned on here apart from "don't install it ever". Delete your game. Make sure the Atari folder is empty. Download .NET 2.0 (there's a link in the common problems thread). Install. Reinstall ToEE. Install Atari patch 1. Install Atari patch 2. Install your no cd crack for patch 2 (it must be the crack for patch 2) Install Co8 v4 selecting all options so that you can run it through the front end. Select the shortcut to run the game through the frontend. Select the Co8 module and start the game up. Has this fixed your problems?
well i did it and installed framework 2.0, still have to change the exe name. But the game works, i just have to have the default toee.exe, and load the enable co8, then use my renamed exe and the co8 works. Magic missle doesnt crash now except, i can only cast 4, it used to go up to 7. Is 4 corect or should it be 7.. seems like it took away my magic missles .
What level is your mage? The maximum number of missiles should be 5 at 9th level. 1st level=1, 3rd=2, 5th=3, 7th=4, 9th=5.
Wierd that you have to change the .exe name. Could you give us your system details and where you are installing ToEE to? As Kalshane said, having 4 magic missiles shouldn't be possible with a level 1 wizard, if that is what you are referring to.
my wizard is level 4 so that should be right, pre c08 i could launch 7, but game would crash when launching 6+ so i never did that. Might be a bug with the original game. i installed to the default folder, a65 3500 oc to 2.3mhz. 3gb ramkingston value, gef 6800 gt, 300gb maxtor 7200, asus nforce4 sli.
It sounds like a corrupted install to be honest. When you reinstall, did you delete everything in the Atari folder first? Or have you just installed over what you already had? What operating system are you running? I can't for the life of me think of why the game would fail to run via the frontend and would need you to change the name of the exe. Krunch is our current master at diagnosing problems, so hopefully he'll spot this thread. In the mean time, I'll try and work out what's going on with that .exe.
im sorry , my wizard is level 7 not 4. yah i dont know why the game wont launch with the default exe name. I did a fresh install, well i deleted everything except my save files, all the dll's and cfg deleted. I had framework 2beta when i installed it, i installed framework 2.0 official after i reinstalled the game, but i dont know if that could be the problem. I have the game installed on my laptop also and the exe works fine, but not with patch 3. But it does seem odd the game wont launch on default exe, i just get a blank screen and a lot of loading program sound ticks just like when you load the game, black screen then desktop. Also while using co8, if i attempt to load the game like 3 times after 3 desktop boot trys, it just hangs on a black screen, i can hear my startmenu going up when pushing the window key, the only thing i can do is reset cause the screen is blank. I installed the new gef drivers and still have this blank problem. I have vurtual memory turned off if that might have anything to do with it. ill try turning it back on but i doubt that would be the problem.
There is some wierdness if you install the .NET after you've installed the frontend. Can I just clear something up? Your current loopy installation has been done exactly as I suggested earlier in the thread (ie .NET 2 was installed before you installed the game)? If not, could you play the reinstall game one last time please and then try to launch the game via the frontend shortcut, then the co8 module within the frontend. Don't copy across your old characters, start a fresh game with the pre-generated toons and see how it goes with regards to CTDs. There is a possibility that your old characters have the corruption which is screwing up the game (edit - although it does seem like your wizard has actually been fixed now, so it's a very small possibility unless your getting CTDs in game). The description of what is happening when you load the .exe sounds like a secure-rom issue. Which would still be there if the crack isn't hooking up with the .exe. One other thing to check out for is overclocking. You didn't say that you were, but if you are, this could be another cause of some of the CTDs. With 3 gigs of RAM I doubt that the Virtual Memory would be needed, but still worthwhile just to try turning it on as you said. As for patch 3, that's an Atari patch which has been known to cause much strangeness. Avoid it. It is meant to fix the direct X looting bug. And it does. But it seems to introduce new bugs. The looting bug is fixed by the .dll which is included with Co8v4 (it was originally done by Moebius). One last thing, which OS are you running please.
1. Do NOT use Atari Patch3, period. Install Patch2 again. [Patch3 is garbage.] 2. Use the ENGLISH NO-CD VERSION 2 fix after reloading Patch2. 3. Delete your [most likely] corrupted SAVED GAMES--do not use 'em--and make new saved games from playing ToEE in a good installation of ToEE patched to Atari Patch2 (with or without the Co8 4 MOD and Toffee - however you prefer to play it). It might be best if you properly uninstall the game, delete all of the remaining folders, reboot and do an install from scratch. 4. I won't dance around in a minefield and try to avoid stepping on a landmine. Here is my point. So, please, don't take this wrong. We have been trying to advise you of things like what I said above in this post and what I get from reading your posted entries is you are assuming we just can't be right or something. Please take our advice as we have been solving ToEE game issues for awhile. That's why you came here and asked us, right?
