How does the community feel about magical item superstores, good idea? bad idea? ugly idea? (bad pun - but you get the idea ) What should be sold? Minor magical items? Medium magical item's? Major magical items? A good assortment of all magical items? Should the store inventory refresh? Post your Idea's below.
Oooo I get first crack at this. Keep in mind that (I tihnk its fair to say) Allyx has something in mind for later in the game, when u r already crafting.
A nice range items would be good, but I'd like to see some things that perhaps are not currently available or can't be crafted if you didn't take the right cleric domains. For example, a nice magic wooden elven shield (not available as far as I know, but nice for bards since there is no spell failure %) or holy/axiomatic weapons. Perhaps you could be required to perform some sort of quest to bring back an artifact or something in order to be allowed to purchase the more powerful stuff.
I think there should be a selection of certain items, but not all as that would take a lot of the fun out of finding neat items in later parts of the game.
The Bazaar could have access to spell scrolls. Also, could be a great launching point for mini quests by starting with dialog and offering treasure maps that when used can teleport you to new maps/ locations.
It should be in a suitably sized metropolitan area...Like Verbobonc, perhaps? And not all things should be found there....although, from time to time special things might just become available. It depends on what you can craft, there, Master Allyx.
That is my intention, to put it into Verbobonc, but it will be difficult to gain access to, and the group should be as high as 8th level to make it gain access to the trader in question. Although being the residence of a high level wizard I suppose the apprentice may be there reguardless and able to sell scrolls (thinking of Deekayex's scroll sale dialogue), leaving the absent wizard to do the item/weapon crafting. As for quest's, I have a few idea's... but what item's should be for sale? the trader in question has a decent library of spells so should I limit the items to the ones that can be crafted by a wizard of the appropriate level (assuming all spells up to the crafters maximum spell level are known)?
Will the shopkeeper wear a fez and wield a broom? Sorry, 25 y/o Fafhrd memory just bubbled up. Ooo, new PC team idea! After I update & start over. AGAIN.
Not around here much these days, but for what it's worth, I'd like to see a good magic shop with some unique items. I also like the idea of the most powerful items as quest rewards rather than cash payments, kind of like the forge items in BG2. "So you'd like Dragonhide Plate? I can forge that for you. First, bring me the hide of a Dragon."
My 2 cp: That kind of quest makes more sense that ones like helping tha tailor (weaver?) get into the militia. A reward beyond 350 xp that will help my party more in the game, or provide pieces of a tool (like the OoGD + gems) that I need or will wish I had. I think entry prereqs are nonegalitarian; if I have the $, let me in to shop. Gotta teach myself some modding, next....
Yes you do. And intelligent quests (and outcomes) are something we would all like to see. Albeit the tailor issue is right out of the original module.
Ok, so a little update here... The shopkeepers inventory is done (doesn't respawn yet, i'll do that soon) as the shopkeeper can make the item's, I made a dummy player character version, gave it all the feats the one in game has, added copious amounts of gold peices and all the spells for that class, and filled the shop container with all items that could be crafted. All arcane wands, wonderous items, and staves that were craftable by the test character will have the chance of being restocked (low level items will have a higher chance of respawning than the high level items) when the shop inventory restocks.
I casually stroll up to the dealer of choice. "Um..hi there shopkeep! I'd like my +5 Vorpal Blade if you please. Oh thanks again - I'll be sure to let all the widows I'll be making that you are looking for a mate..." It's also a good idea to match up items/sellers to the buyers with similar alignments....(ie don't let the priestly shopkeep SELL the 'Demonic Hellblade' ... OR have a shopkeep selling a 'Demonic Plate Armor' to a Holy Paladin....) -LCC "Many are the possibilities...it's what we do that counts" Davrum Bashere
hey a paladin has all the freedom to do, buy or kill who ever they want, they just won't be a paladin very long.
