I can't seem to start the console (shift-~). Does anyone have any idea as to why and how to fix it?

I've just done a clean re-install of the following:

    1) TOEE
    2) TOEE patch 2
    3) Co8 patch 4.0.0 (standard options)

Still can't seem to get any "console" to pop-up when I hit shift-~.

I've tried starting the game via the launcher and via the standard game icon and neither shows anything on screen when I try to get the console to come up.

Any ideas as to what to try?

Sometimes you need to hold it down for a sec.

Just went in-game and held it down for a full 10 seconds several times - no response. But thanks for the suggestion.

Where should this console be and what should it look like?

It's a rectangular shape, superimposed text screen which appears in the left hand corner of the screen.

Nope - definitely not seeing anything like that. I've also noticed that the "tab" key doesn't have the effect the tip-of-the-day says. When I press and hold tab nothing highlights, though objects capable of interaction are on-screen.

On my UK keyboard I have to use shift ¬ to get the console up, I hold shift first then press ¬ and release it before releasing shift, otherwise it just don't work.

Just tried that technique - no dice.

Ok - lets try an alternative... What I'm trying to do is change experience points on a few of my characters. They had the bug that keeps them from doing anything in combat. The only way to clear it was to have Jaroo kill and resurrect them, which lost quite a bit of experience. I was just going to put that experience back.

Any ideas as to how to edit character experience using a hex editor? I tried following the examples listed here:

    http://forums.3dgamers.com/showthread.php?t=1590

However, I cannot find any numbers that seem to relate to my experience point values!

So i was going to use console commands to fix that, but unfortunately I can't seem to get the console to "come up"...

Jaroo's spell permanacy fix replaces the XP lost due to resurrection, your characters should have the same XP they had before you approached Jaroo about the problem.

Well, for some reason it definitely took a LOT of xp from the three characters that used that fix. No matter. Now I'm getting program aborts when I try to go back to Jaroo. I guess it is the final straw because I've just deleted the game. I've spent more time trying to fix or get around bugs than I have playing the game. Thanks for your assistance anyway!

Sounds to me like you didn't get patch 2 to install correctly or aren't using the right parts of co8 4.0 (if it's the version with toeefe, you need to run that to setup what configuration of patches you need). Also, if you got a jewel case version of the game, some of them come with patch 3 already packaged, and that'll cause problems with patches/mods geared toward patch 2. I think installing patch 2 on top of patch 3 fixes this problem for most people, however, and even if it didn't you should be getting the console (which came about via patch 2). Dunno. Just really sounds like your patch 2 attempt didn't take.

    Don't give up!!
With the Co8 mod..it's like a whole new game.
Of course I'm biased..as I have had no problem with it!

I have very recently (in the last week or so) started having problem where the console won't come up. It USED to come up with Shift ~, but now nothing. I just reinstalled the entire program from scratch tonight, patch 2 and Co8 4 patch, it still will not bring up the console. Is it possible some sort of update (like directX) would cause the console to no longer function? Any ideas what else might cause the console to stop working?

I've had this problem before as well. Try holding down the shift key (don't let it up at all) and tapping the tilde key repeatedly. It worked for me.

That didn't work :( I tried all sorts of various rythms [hold shift] then tap ~ slowly, over and over, then faster and faster till I'm hitting ~ as fast as I can, holding shift then pressing and holding ~ too. It appears to have no effect, I've been pushing shift~ in various forms for about 10 minutes.
