Is there a way to make the Co8 patch disable autosave automatically? (by changing the ToEE config files?)
As autosave is known to cause trouble, this is better then just telling people in the readme that they should go and manually disable it (since its on by default)

The latest version of ToEEFE does just that. It overwrites the .cfg file. This doesn't stop people from changing it back though.

mmm, well its not implemented in the co8 patch v 4.0.0.
I just installed it on a clean install and had to manually turn off autosave.

The latest version of Front End is post-Co8 4.0.0.

I *think* he, and a few others of us perhaps, are wondering if this can be put straight into the Co8 patch, so it won't be necessary to use the Front End in order to get this one desired result. Having said that, I recognize that it's a pretty trivial matter to go into the options and disable it. But it seems to turn itself back on at times when starting a new game (i've only started one new game under the new Co8 patch, so I'm not sure if that's changed, but it seems unlikely). I'm sure I don't need to make the age-old comments about how often the readme goes unread... So if it could be done, it might save a lot of posting on this forum by folks that don't read it...

I think this "turning itself back on" thing may be the result of how people are starting up. With me, I put the cd in; it spins up, and asks if I want to play ToEE. I click no, then launch through the ToEE front end. This gets me back to where I was set-up-wise. If this isn't done, then the game launches without the options I originally chose under "toffee"; chaos then results. We just gots to be more careful...

    Sound right to you, Blue?

That sounds feasable, I use the no-cd crack anyway so that for me is a non-issue.

Yes, Spike, if you try to launch your Toffee game through non-Toffee means, you will fail, and lots of weird things will happen. This isn't the issue with the autosave though. That is stored in the config.ini, and it can be changed and overwritten externally (i.e. not while in-game). This is exactly what the latest version of Toffee does. Every time you run Toffee, it changes the config.ini to make sure autosave is off. You could do this change with the installer, except for one small problem. As Lorax said, the game turns this option back on from time to time. While this is not a problem for Toffee, since it checks every time it is run, a non-Toffee installer would only do it once, and the player would have to keep checking to make sure the autosave hadn't been re-enabled. This, in my opinion, makes it pointless to include a "switch autosave off" feature in the installer.

still, how about integrating the latest toefee into the co8 patch, call it... co8 patch v4.0.1 and have it lnclude this. Again, just something to save alittle bit of trouble.

Co8 4.0.1 will include the latest version of Toffee, and rumor has it will be out some time in the near future. That is specific as I can be for the moment.
