First off, a thanks to everyone who worked on all these mods. I bought this game shortly after it came out and couldn't even play if until I wandered to this site about a year and some change later. I got bored of the MMO market for a while and reinstalled this a couple nights ago, made a decent party with mediocre stats consisting of Paladin Ranger Sorc/Fighter1(for ranged feats) using a lot of range touch spells. Sorc/Wizard Monk The party isn't super and currently at lvl5, but I went to clear the building full of guards next to the Temple and boy was I in for a pounding. This was the first area other than the River for the fish I did with the 4.0 patch installed. Witches can cast silence and heal. Jeez, I think I am a little to low of a level for this. Maybe when I get a fireball I'll stand a chance. So a couple of questions: Am I going to have to have a more "balanced" party(one with a healer) to beat this game now. Or am I just a level(or two) off from getting the fireball to jam it down their throats. Or am I just going to have to utilize the higher stat feature to allow me to not be, well gimped. The party I've finally got the hang off it and its still rough going, but if the witches are just overall super powerful in what they can do I can hang off on this area for a while. This area I know can give a beating sometimes just by pure bad luck, but tonight wasn't even close, I think the most i got off was two spells before they slammed me down.
well its a while ago now, but anyway I sent ted one of my saved games and he commented that my cleric had no healing spells, and this was in the 4th temple dungon. the game does need a slightly more balanced party now but with enough cash and afew visits to jaroo, calmert and mother scregg you can get by without a healer. you might want a theif tho some of the traps get difficult
I must say that (thanks to Livonya) is one of my favourite area's in the game, you can do it at 5th level (at least I have) but it is difficult. ***spoiler below*** Try giving your spellcasters the silent spell feat (just in case you fail the save) and fireball wouldn't hurt either, also craft wands of magic missiles, and wands of scorching ray - you can use those even while silenced. remember to cast your protection spells before you go in (cast the ones with the longest duration's first, that way your 'shield' spell doesn't run out before you get in there!), and protection from arrows helps a great deal (burne has a scroll for sale) against all the archers (who ready Vs Spells).
The Co8 4 mod pack, particularly because of Livonya's mod, does make the game more difficult. However, a lot of it is because she fixed a lot of things that were broken that caused the enemies to not function as they should. There's only one or two instances I can think of where she actually made things more difficult by increasing stats/levels. Everything else was AI and ability fixes.
Thanks for the replies. I had to adhere my next level up to getting abilites to counter act that pesky place. Obscuring mist helps a ton. Hoping I can manage my way through the rest of the game later this evening or into the wee hours of the morning, already got a few ideas for a new party.
