Woohooo!!! Sounds like things r going great guns - well well, I drop out of sight for a few days and see how much gets accomplished. Its almost like my endless spamming is a distraction or something :mrhappy:

Well done all involved, can't wait to try it out (especially with Allyx's stuff).

The problem is fixed. I think. At least it works for me. I've sent it off to Morpheus yet again.

Circle of Eight Mod Pack Release Candidate 1

    Release Candidate 1 is ready.

Download it here: link removed since it is obsolete now

Please test the various installer options, guys. Try different alignments/classes and check if everything works.

Projected release date for the final version: November 1

    Have fun!

I need a beer now. :drunk:

EDIT: The non-ToEEFE shortcut only works if you have already run ToEEFE once. Yeah, this sucks. We'll try to find a solution for those who don't want to install .NET, for whatever reason.

Re: Our installation situation is a disaster

I launched from frontend and I have what appears to be a non-co8 game. No kids, no masterworks items or commentary. I'm not sure what I have here. No skeleton priest, etc. All the Liv stuff is not there. Maybe I did something wrong in the download, What's up?

Did you select Co8 4.0.0 from the Frontend menu?

Release Candidate 2 - ToEEFE Edition

Release Candidate 2 is ready. We decided to release two versions, one that is built around ToEEFE and recommended to most players, and one that doesn't use ToEEFE (intended for those who don't want to install .NET).

The ToEEFE version can be found here:

The "Basic" version without the Front-End will follow shortly.

Release Candidate 2 - Basic Edition

And here's the Basic Edition, which comes without ToEEFE.

IMHO, the ToEEFE Edition is much preferable, since it allows you to have different modules installed at the same time, and ToEEFE gives you tons of useful options. But it seems there's people out there who are allergic to .NET applications, so here you go ...

Re: Our installation situation is a disaster

I guess I am one of those who adore a cave rather than a grass hut. In my experience, Win32 programmers seem to have always been the people who are the excited ones about dotNET and dotNET applications. As a Systems Engineer and Network Engineer, I have experienced it is, normally, best to only install what is needed or must be installed.

Personally, I hate the entire idea or philosohy that cellphones need to also be cameras, camcorders, IM or text machines, mp3 players, etc. IMO - Just give me a cellphone that either beeps, vibrates, or rings when someone calls, no song and dance and illuminating and changing LED lights and light and music shows. Also personally, I find programs like Weatherbug and other crapware like screensaver software to be horrid. Although, I admit things like a screensaver built in a CE environment for a dedicated microprocessing device could be real nice for a big screen plasma display to be used instead of a window pane in a house.

Thanks guys for the non-Toffee version. I have neither Toffee nor dotNET installed. I am not anti-dotNET at all, I believe it's just extra stuff I do not need to have installed on my computers. It can be and is useful for guys like programmers and others, just not guys like myself and others like me.

Oh yah and btw, while I am all bah-hum-bug about the dotNET/Toffee version, I will test the non-Toffee version and post the results.

I've always been somewhat of a airheaded dumbass. Maybe, someday i'll learn how to read better and pay attention to detail. Everything is working fine now.

Re: Our installation situation is a disaster

@ Everyone: Yeah, I did some tests and I'd like to say that the Toffee and the Non-Toffee versions are better separated in the final release. If the two things are not separated, the conflicts between certain files could occur, which would either result in an unwanted merging of parts of Co8 4.0.0 with the original ToEE module, or with either the Toffee or the non-Toffee (or both) counterparts of the installation not working (read: CTDing all the time).

@ Krunch: I'd really want to see what you will say about .NET when Windows Longhorn is going to be released, pal. Well, anyway - it's your choice, feel free to use whatever you want, and deprive yourself deliberately of whatever extra is available out there. :)

Re: Our installation situation is a disaster

What's the difference between the Toffee versions of Release Candidate 1 and RC2?

It's called Windows Vista now, and it's currently scheduled for a July 23, 2006 release.:)

There's none. But other files have been updated in RC2.

Re: Our installation situation is a disaster

Whoever wants to buy Microsoft Vista has to buy a 64-bit motherboard and a 64-bit CPU before they buy the final release version of Microsoft Vista. Grin.

I am not there, yet, not even in decision. The 64-bit motherboard and CPU, by themselves, would be extremely expensive. I would want something like this.
    * 64-bit AMD 4800+ X2 Dual Core
    ** ABIT 64-bit AN8 SLI motherboard
    *** 2 modules of 1-GB of DDR533 RAM
**** nVidia 7800 GT video card
***** super cooling everything with heat pipes everywhere

Add to that a final release version of Microsoft Vista [after whenever its final version is released] and you have what will be a very expensive computer. Oh yah, the rule of the industry that does not use bleeding edge technology is never buy a new operating system until after the first service pack is released into production. So, I am not looking at buying something like this until about 2 years from now.

    Thus, I can wait!.. :peace:
