Have any of you tried to run a game of TOEE with only one character? I made a barbarian and just finished the moathouse...I was level 7 before I even made it to Lareth...I will lt you know how far I get.
I did it with a rogue - But I fled every large (unwinnable) battle, missed most of the game. However, I think I kind of did the cowardly thing at the end. A level 10 barbarian will die trying to take on the Big Z Level 20 hmmm I think die:wyatt: . Saying that, It all depends what she summons etc. I suppose if you save and repeat you could do it eventually. I tried a Cleric (20) with Turn/Rebuke Plants and lots of summoned creatures) it was going swell untill the trippage began. Good luck :notworthy
I used a monk all the way through (though I did "cheat" by hiring spugnoir and giving him experience and crafting feats so I could use the money I'd earned to buy things that were useful to a monk). Killed Iuz too.
I have to admit that I did hire Serena and her sister but thats only because my barbarian wanted a few hoes (they run around with no armor, clothing, or weapons) to follow him around...
Never went solo. I think here were a couple of threads about this at the Atari site...had a few interesting ideas, too. Isn't this odd? Me, sending folks there for a look-see. mg:
I tried it once, with a paladin.... actually it was Ariana the gnome paladin from the demo....i made it thru the moat house with a fair amount of effort, but after that i just gave up on the idea. I was only doing it to test something, not a serious effort. it was fun. You can get alot of EXP from just doing the quests in hommlet with just one person.
Reading this thread, it might be fun to try a single character run through the entire game. !!! Please take note, this post is not for the feign or weak hearted, especially, not for D&D purists. !!! Edit your pre-game character to have stats something like the following. STR 25 DEX 23 CON 21 INT 24 WIS 22 CHA 21 Edit your pre-game character to have HP/Level 20. Use the MAX HP fix. Select Rogue to start the game and make level 2 and train as a Barbarian. For all levels gained thereafter, train as a Cleric. * Gaining levels as a Rogue and Barbarian and just the first level as a Cleric could be done using the console and, actually, playing the game leveling as a Cleric where the concept would be a motivated PC with 3 levels has learned of the temple and has decided to try to take it out by himself. Use the console and give your 1st-level character +4 tatoos, a +5 cloak of protection, and bracers of archery [at a minimum], along with a +3 weapon. Heck, why not go all out and have this character be proficient with and console a +5 weapon. You could also take it one step further and console permanent damage reduction as a shield, like DR 5. Yes, that could be very fun, indeed!..
There is no way an authentically generated PC by theirself with no consoled stuff, no max hps fix, and no other NPC/PC characters could finish and complete the entire game, meaning also kill zuggtmoy. [EDIT] IMO - It would be difficult and challenging to complete the game, including the nodes and locked level, with the above mentioned added to a character all by theirself.
Why does that have to be the only reason? I didn't find my solo monk game all that hard (non-liv version), but I still enjoyed running through the game pummelling stuff with just one guy. It has a certain flare to it. For the same reason, I used my unarmed attacks throughout (except for Iuz). Just fun to run around and puch everything in the Temple to death.
I think soloing the game would be possible... with the 3pc+5npc fix, and use of suggestion+raise dead to permanently gain npc's from monsters... it might even be possible without the permanent npc if you use alot of suggestion spells to keep them in party, possibly with extend spell... Greater Temple Bugbears rogues, Sea Hag wizards, etc...
Ironman game: "The Beast": Monk 4, then Druid. No modifications. Wouldn't know how! I killed Falrinth and Smigmal and was about 4th Monk / 7th Druid. It was an excellent class combo, completely self-sufficient, but I started thinking about other classes to play so I retired The Beast. I don't think he could have fought the demons very well, let alone Zuggtmoy, but against anything else, The Beast kicked butt. elvicthr
Tried a long time ago, forgot how far i got, but was a 9 cleric/ 1 warrior, all combat oriented feats, worked pretty well, buffs ftw EDOT: sorry forgot, gave him axiomatic weapons which made it alot easier
